    Opened up for discussion.

The running costs above are to be used as a basis for the Annual service Costs field for the Running Costs Calculator (found in the CVR4 Calculators Page). The goal is to get common understanding to agree on the basic running costs of a VR4.

I am fully aware that the above info is subjective to how the car is being driven both before and when you own the car. The thing is we need to start somewhere, finger in the air! - tally ho!

I've based the calculations on the following presumptions.

    1) Service rotation starts from 0 Miles (A, B, C and D Service)
    2) Product costs based on named items (amsoil)
    3) Labour costs are not based on dealership costs and as such may vary.
    4) Car is not tracked or modified.

In theory I should be able to base the running costs using the following calculations.

I will own the car for 4 years, starting from 36,000 Miles.
This covers #8 through to #16

Total Parts would cost £3,079, + £940 if I paid someone else to service my car = £4,019

    There were 8 Service intervals during my VR4 Ownership £4,019 / 8 = £502

If I plan to drive my car 9000 miles per year, I would need £1004 to cover the Annual service Costs
If I plan on driving 12,500 Miles per year (12k tends to be average) it would cost me £1506

I chuck the above (£1506) into the running costs calculator and I get total cost of £5404 per year and 43p per mile to run.

    Thoughts?

Barry, have some rep for this great writeup. Give's an excellent estimation of cost for maintaining a VR-4!

Wasn't there a service schedule at some stage in the past (created by one of the members around here)? Maybe you can link this document to your post too?

18k - changing wheels/tyres front to rear should not be £500 surely...

It's just swapping wheels/tyres from front to the rear - to balance the wear on the tyres - may need balancing but not £500

Only that cost if you neeed NEW tyres...?

Is 18k an expected mileage for owners to expect need for new tyres...?

Yes.. It is a possible.. As possible as needing to swap front's to rears.. All depends on the usage and the tyre.. !

VR-4 long gone, well quite a while since it went, and all paperwork reminding me of expenditure, so perhaps wishful thinking that my tyres lasted more than 18k...

So 18000 would be replacement, if 9000 is the swap ?

Depends on how you drive it I guess!

I've destroyed a set of tyres in less than 18000 before now....

And i've already posted that above.. But this calc is just a basis. Not an exact. So i 9000 is the swap then 18000 must be the replace.. I used to do full sets a year on my Rover Ti.. 12000 miles..

After receiving imported VR-4 without a odometer conversion to miles, grateful to read there is a detail of the service schedule from Mitsubishi, getting confused about converting schedule from miles to kilometres,

    - I took liberty of taking the original format from BraindG who started this thread to create with miles and kilometers (rounded to nearest 500) side by side. Hope this helps those that get as confused as me.
