Thumbs up Getting rid of the front locks

Been done several times before, but no one said how cheap and easy it is to do, hands down easiest mod i think iv done.

Literally took less than 20 minutes for the LH side. Still waiting on a RH handle, since the one Mitsi Partsworld had the paint was a bit rough, but should only be a week or so.

Hopefully will make someone think twice before attacking my car with a screwdriver..

    lol...

i did this 4 years ago! to my st,
and within 2 weeks on my vr4.

cost me 40$ for the handles,
and $20 to colour match them.

    and yes very easy...

what did you do with you lock rod?
remove it completely or just tir it outa the way?

I know i saw yours and yousee's thread one day. I figure someone might want to put the locks back, so i just wrapped the rod in a rag and some electrical tape so it doesnt rattle, and then put a cable tie so it doesnt flop around.

that is COOL!! where can I buy those (I see a mention of 'mitsu partsworld' but I don't know if that is just a generic name or an actual shop).

    Thanx!

Mitsubishi Partsworld, is just my closest wrecker. http://www.partsworld.co.nz/?id=1004...5&category=315

Your best bet would be to try and find a car close to you thats been crashed. I was trying to get a pair from Trademe (our version of ebay), but it was taking too long, plus this way i can see them first.

I think Gly was saying that the Evo 4 rear doorhandles are the same, so maybe you could get a pair of those?

Dont know about prices overseas, but here you can get the rear legnum handles in silver for $45NZ a side. And they scrap a silver one roughly every couple of weeks.

Hmm, nice. I would have concerns over the lack of locks but 1. I never use the key and 2. you can still climb through from the boot if you need to!

Now all I need is to find a wrecked Pyrenees Black car to get them off.

Yeah thats what i thought. Iv never needed to use the key since a week after i got the car.

And if youve got the Sedan, then theres all the more incentive to move the battery to the boot.

Yes I suppose the battery in the boot is a good plan if you were unable to get to the passenger compartment to open the bonnet.

nice... i like... but... like this is a deffo mod for legnums - but for galants, might get tricky if you cant get in the car - perhaps put an override button in the boot? would that be possible?

Override button is OK as long as your battery isn't dead.

No problem, iv done both sides now. Its definately not my idea, its off another thread around CVR4, but i'm stoked with the result and the cost. Its one of those things i thought would be 10x harder than it was. The stink thing is, iv been waiting for my mates to notice, but theyre not really car people, and not one of them has picked it up. Still, i like it.

Just received a set of 'rear door handles' to put on my front doors too! What a great idea MPAU009!
