    Question Replacement Wheel Bearing

    Hi folks,

I've just taken ownership of a rather lovely VR4 - clutch is rather vicious but it is something I'm sure I will get used to - and the driver side front wheel bearing is starting to go...having a nosey through the boards it appears that a place in the US - does the required bearing...just before I order it, can anyone confirm that it is the correct one?

Also roughly how much I'd be expecting the bill to be for getting it fitted? I'm a complete luddite when it comes to cars and how the go together - love driving them and the VR4 is amazing but no idea how they actually work!

Saying that I'm perfectly happy to strip down my mountain bikes and fix them myself so it's not through lack of knowledge more a lack of understanding of where to start!

    Thanks,

    Richard.

This is by far the easier option - pressing in a new bearing can see the swear jar being filled to bursting point!

Any idea of cost? Only spotted the US one as it $89 which would work out to be under £50 and delivery claims to be free!

    Thanks for the post...

The camskill way is a lot easier i think. If it helps, i beleve its the same hub carrier as an evo IV.

    Cheers,

    Ben.

Camskill will be the safer bet, but you will have many friends if you prove the American source to be compatible and cheap!!

This must be Axeboy's Legnum. Congratulations on the purchase

Yes it was Axeboy's Legnum...it really is a nice car to drive, but the clutch...dear god, I need instructions on that...it's reinforced and intended for standing starts (or so the smooth salesman told me! ;-))...so do I just give it a wee bit of gas and just lift off the clutch? It seems to suggest that but I'm worried I stall it and fluff something up!

The free shipping only applies to continental US, so you will be paying more than the advertised price. Then you risk 10% +17% customs and VAT.

As it's the same as an EVO VI and later hub-carrier, they're readily available in the uk. If you're not in a hurry, have a look at fleabay, and browse the MLR. Try posting in the MLR wanted section - you'd be surprised at how often someone has bits that you need.

I seem to remember paying around £70 for a shiny new carrier + bearing off ebay...

And to fit, a Howto in the articles section: Here

The KieranCorp Secret Service continues to viciously abuse and falsely accuse this innocent paragon of virtue. The distress has been so great that he no longer can continue his selfless charitable work with homeless children and abused sheep.

if you have a dremel, and a friend with a press i'd go that way - much cheaper than the whole hub, from my sig go to the engine to ground link, and down to the bearings thread.

i bought the bearing itself, removed from hub and pressed it (well hit it) on to the hub.

Pain in the behind...went to order the assembly from the US and they tell me they don't ship outside the country!!! Right, I'm needing cheap locations in the UK please...for a wheel hub assembly...any suggestions? The whole unit, not just the bearings...

Also, the front end seems to be making a sort of knocking noise when you go over bumps...I'm a luddite...what should I be looking for to check for anything loose (doubtful!)...thanks.

    1. Read the replies to your post. Cheap sources mentioned several times. We don't reply for our own health y'know

    2. Rattling could be anything - jack the car up, take the wheel/s off and have a tug at everytihng in site (on the car I mean ). A Loose brake caliper bolt has come up a few times...

Got it ordered from Camskill...sorry for the daft questions...was expecting hyperlinks rather than just names of places so not seeing a link I assumed it had been missed...re-read them all and worked it out.
