Introduction
So why was Club VR4 started ? Simple.
There were a few of us hanging around various other forums (e.g. MLR and TGC) and we were finding it difficult to obtain information on our beloved cars.
I purchased my VR4 in February 2003, and had already joined the MLR and TGC forums looking for advice and tips, and believe me it was difficult.
I had come across several other owners on these sites (e.g. Chris G, Calum, Nick VR4, H7, Jaysback, Petrolhead and a certain young man called BraindG) on the 10th March 2003 and 14th March 2003 two seperate threads were created, one TGC and the other on MLR asking what people thought about starting a club. Soon after work started on CVR4 - v1.0 - v1.1
At the same time Spirit was also planning a group of us to attend Japfest on 17th May 2003 as a small possie of VR4 owners - without an identity (by now Brind had also found us). On the 31st March, Barry managed to register on the MLR and told me he had started a website - what did we think? Well you can imagine what we thought - hell yes my son count us in!
On the 5th April 2003, Club VR4 was born and the website was launched - open for business - First thread -
This was a momentous day for all VR4 owners, for at last we could begin to pool or knowledge of our beloved cars.
Since that day, the growth of Club VR4 has been far above anything Barry and I had ever imagined.
We attended Japfest as a recognised club and saw Chris G take to the track with Barry as a petrified passenger!
Myself and Barry got talking to the editor of Japanese Performance magazine, which resulted in the VR4's Buyer's Guide and Mo's and Simon's star appearances in the January 2004 issue of the magazine.
The first club event was a great success.
By now we were also getting a large number of worldwide owners using the forums (particularly New Zealand).
The show season continued and we had a big attendance at JAE in July 2003, and again at Santa Pod's Japanese Performance Show in October 2003.
Planning for the future, we took the big decision to introduce paid membership from November 2003.
This has since proven to be a success and has allowed additional resources to become available for the ongoing development of Club VR4.
So where are we now ? Well we have gathered the biggest knowledge of VR4's in the world.
We have pushed the engine much further than Mitsubishi probably ever intended - and there's still more to come!
We have made the VR4 a force to be reckoned with at shows and track events !
But most importantly, we have the foundations of a club that can go onwards and upwards and our members know there is support for anything related to the VR4 at the click of a button !
