I found out by internet search, but when the car arrived it had a club key fob attached to the keys. guessing it may be known on here or one of the previous owners was a member.

Hi all. Just popped in to hi from Sheffield. I have joined the site as i have a son who has just purchased a 1996 Legnum VR4 or as he calls it his "new project". This is where dad comes to the rescue as i feel like i missed my chance with one of these and the one he has bought im sure will need some tlc the bring it back. The car in question was sourced after many nights of my son looking at other JDM cars and asking my opinion, to which i didn't have much enthusiasm for, as im mainly a...

Bolt exits external of the case. There was no leak when we pulled the bolt out, it?s all the input seal. Shop is not excited about splitting the case to swap the filter. The real issue is I?ve got no time before the car needs to be stored up for winter. I?d rather not drive her the 1hr in salt and snow. I?ll be doing the wave spring check, clutches and steels, and the planetary gear pin welding in the spring or summer. I?ll likely save my lunch-money and buy a used box, ship to a tuner...

Its possible that bolt isn't blind but goes into one of the hydraulic channels or something, hence oil can leak past it. Very common in a lot of US transmissions to have to seal bolts against this issue, not sure on the W5A51 if that is or isn't needed. might have been flung there, but given how tight it is once the torque converter is fitted id expect all to have a drip if it was the case. The internal filter is not in the valve pan, no. it is deeper inside, you should absolutely get it done...

I have my PFL auto Legnum VR4 in the shop for trans leak. Got sent a video by the tech that is leading to two issues. 1. The tech believes there is a leak behind the top bolt in the bell housing. The bolt has a drip sitting on it but I?m not sure it?s capable of leaking there. Does that make sense? Wondering if that?s just a mounting bolt and there?d need to be case cracking for it to weep fluid. I?m thinking that?s just splash from the leaking input seal? Thoughts? Does that...

I also have an original front grill in Black which gives the car the mean jap racer look which I think is cool - however I keep flip-flopping between that and the original silver, so the new owner will get to have both and choose :D Extra photos showing the mudflaps fitted and M3 wing mirrors fitted - original electric mirrors included

Could be, either way the gearbox needs to come off to confirm. And while I’m in there, I might as well replace the whole clutch assembly.

I checked the noise while pressing and releasing the clutch pedal and I can confirm the noise does change, so it looks like at least the input shaft bearing needs replacement. Bugger. In terms of part ID, is it definitely this item 22008? Comes back as part no MD700207. Anything else that needs replacing at the same time? Any other bearings or seals that will be ruined during the removal? I will change the clutch while the gearbox is off. I found Jesus-Ninja's clutch change...

My manual gearbox (V6 non VR4) is making a very similar noise, and only when warm. I haven?t done the clutch pedal operation test yet I?ll do so tomorrow and report the outcome. Is it just the clutch release bearing or is it the gearbox input shaft bearing as well? Answers above suggested both..

Hi and welcome to the best place for VR-4 information! There's not many of us who know the US market, and prices, so we probably can't guide you on whether it's "worth" the money or not! I would say buy on condition, especially bodywork/rust (if that's a thing where you are, it certainly is here in the UK!). Personally, I think the perfect VR-4 is automatic gearbox, with AYC, but others will argue heavily with me on that! :D Be sure that there's no fault codes stored - take a...

Hi i?m going to look at a 1997 galant vr4 type S in a moment with 70,000km and from the photos it looks to be in good condition i?m bringing some friends with me to help me look it over since this is my first time buying a car. he?s asking 10,000USD for it so i?m just looking for guidance on whether or not it?s worth the money he?s asking for it. i?ll probably post something once i?ve gotten it. also it?s not registered in the state of California so that?s gonna cost me too
