Revisiting this thread for a Bump. Actively looking now. Just missed out on the White one from Wayne at Arnside motorsport. Cash waiting and ready for the right one. Closer to original internal external as much as possible. Anyone have one stashed away and contemplating moving it on?

Good points, Nick Mann, I've amended the diagrams in my post - hope that makes it clearer!

Nice diagrams Garry - it might be worth labelling the "air intake hose" as the pre-turbo hose or something similar? For a second I was reading the diagram back to front as I saw air intake hose and assumed it was the boost reference point rather than the solenoid waste outlet point. Also worth mentioning is that if you have a facelift auto you will almost certainly need to refer to the manual diagrams, not the auto with tcl. (Unless your name is Nev.) Diagram 3 for me! :D

Boost leak testing would be fairly straight forward on these cars it seems. However, since there's two turbochargers and thus two inlets, you wont be able to test from the turbo onward. Frankly testing from the turbo inlet isn't the most accurate way anyway, since boost pressure still makes its way past the journal bearings and into the crank case (while the car is not running, of course). So, if we assume the turbo compressor housing gaskets as well as the outlet O-rings are intact and...

In case anyone was wondering, our cars are "LEVEL 3" I've re-done the vacuum line diagrams from the service manuals in higher quality than is currently floating around on the internet, so I hope this helps! And if you wish to move to "LEVEL 4" and install a 3-port solenoid, this is how you would plumb it up. (Note, this will likely require a retune)

Dave, would you be able to do a complete How To guide on testing the VR-4 for boost leaks - i.e. tools needed and how to do it? This would be a useful guide for so many people (including me!) as it is indeed a common issue.

The reason i have posted this information is because at every dyno day i have attended there is always 2 or 3 people that have trouble with boost control on the dyno. and it is either a faulty boost solenoid or the solenoid is plumbed in wrong. with the info provided able there is no reason why anyone should turn up to a dyno for a tuning session or a power run with a boost control issue. it is embarrassing to be honest, how frequently this happens.

Still got my VR2 (LHD) but not driven it in a few years... this is how it's sitting (yes that is a little ding in the lower back corner) I have a daily Mazda 6 2.3 Sport And I bought a proper VR4 cold-spec with 87000kms (it also has the original sunroof). Only driven 200+kms in the last year. Been slowly building it to factory+ spec.

Excellent, thanks for the feedback and confirmation. I did think that "Scaled" was the correct one to use, but it's been about 3-4 years since I looked closely at a log with coolant temperatures in it, so my memory was a little hazy! Glad however that everything seems to be spot on and working correctly :)

Alright so I've been made a fool by my own ignorance and impatience again... Turns out Garry you was right, the "Coolant Temp" option does in fact read way higher than actual. I ran the "Coolant Temp Scaled" at the same time as the other option and there was a noticeable discrepancy. At ambient temp, both the outside air sensor and temp scaled were reading 18C, whilst the other option was 21. Then I let the car idle for 30ish minutes and the scaled option rose more slowly but gradually, and...

I lurk the forums occasionally. Not got a VR4 but an FTO with the 6A13TT engine conversion. The decline in numbers is the same on all forums I think. I know the FTOOC forum is a shadow of what it used to be.. everybody moving onto the social media groups. Like has already been said, it's not a good place though to search for information or to get how to's, etc. from. Forums are invaluable for that Sent from my BLA-L09 using Tapatalk
