Ive erad through a bit, but couldn;t find a definate answer.

Say, for example i was to get some new wheels, i know that i would be getting 225/45/17 , however if i was looking at say, Oz wheels, i could only get them them in 8" and not 7.5..... would this be an issue? /Hmmm

I don't think so. I think the problem is the offset more than the width. I'm pretty sure with the correct offset an 8" wide rim should be fine. Maybe someone has one and can say for sure?

I have used both 225/45/17 & 235/45/17 tires on my Konig 17 x 8" wheels (40 offset). In my opinion the 225/45/17 are a bit too narrow...235/45/17 are ideal size.

Hi, can somebody explain to me what is meant by 'offset'. im looking for some new mags for my legnum and all the mags are advertised with a specific offset.... what would be the correct offset for a vr4 leghum (imma total newbie when it comes to wheels :). Also is it possible to fit 8" wide wheels to a Legnum, I was told by the salesman that they "may" be too wide.

I'm putting EVO 7 mags on mine soon, these are 8" wide wheels with 235/45 tyres on them. The offset on these is a little bit more than the stock rims, and they fit the car perfectly fine.

I don't understand where the offset is measured from, or anything like that. Search for evo 7 mags in these forums, you should find quite a bit of info about their offset as well as pics on how 8" mags look on a car with that offset.

Google might be your best friend about the offset measurements though.

Search this site for offset. There is a great explanation somewhere.

The offset is a measurement of how far the mounting surface of the wheel is from the center line. Does that make sense? The bigger the offset, the closer the mounting surface is to the edge of the wheel.

I think you need to aim for about 40 offset. A bigger number will mean the wheel sits further in to the car, a smaller number means the wheel may foul the wing.

I think i understand, maybe google will be my friend..... so the offset decides how flush the wheel sits with the cars body, so if you get wider wheels you will probably need a bigger(?) offset so the tyres dont rub on the arches??

The offset is measured from the centre of the rims width to the face. So if it has a 38mm offset, the mag spokes will be (at closest) 38mm from the centre of the mag's width.
