anybody had any experence with surface discharge plugs on a road car , i've just got a set for my v6 , retail cost for the public version is £50 each /JawDroppi , but because i have freinds in high places i have now i my possesion a set out of a works honda (sorry for the swearing) touring car ,total cost to me £0.00 :smug: :smug: , they have only done one 20 min race and are as good as new , they are the full race version and as such are not listed on the NGK website but working out the codeing they are a colder running plug , i can't imagine this will cause any problems with these lean burn engines but if anyone knows different let me know soon before i bolt them in

i'll post a piccy up asap , basically they spark off all sides of the electrode giving a more consistant spark and burn

Would these plugs be suited to a turbocharged application? ;)

i would say they would be ok , if they can cope with a fully tuned honda touring car engine then the mild tune of a vr4 engine shouldn't be a problem . and i refer to my earlier answer of don't hold your breath

right i've been to my supplier :inquisiti today to get some more plugs , well the bad news is that they didn't have any , the good news is they had one set of iridium tipped DTM spec plugs :smoking: , these will be given to the first person at japshow that polishs my car . if i get any more sets then it won't hurt for 2 people to polish her :rolleyes4

whats the code on the surface discharge plugs?

psbarham
21-09-2005, 08:16 PM
NGK 10 , i don't think there was anything else , i would go and look at one but as they are burried deep inside the cylinder head its a bit difficult at the mo, as soon as i get a chance i will find out if there is anything else on the steel portion

R5883-10 racing plug, 14mm, 3/4" reach, 5/8" hex, gasket seat, non resistor, solid terminal, surface discharge $19.69 each

Racing surface discharge plugs may be necessary in high compression applications or when valve/piston clearance does not allow for a ground strap and a retracted tip plug is not appropriate due to insulator/tip exposure. While they are nearly immune to preignition, they can be susceptible to fouling when used in colder applications. NGK surface gap plugs are hand made in Japan and constructed to withstand the most extreme racing environments.

R7435-10 racing plug, 14mm, 3/4" reach, 5/8" hex, gasket seat, resistor, projected tip, JIS length, iridium center electrode, tapered cut ground electrode, solid terminal $38.81 each

Fine wire racing plugs are designed to give you a stronger spark from your existing ignition system. Fine wire iridium center electrode requires less voltage to ionize(jump) the plug gap. This allows a stronger spark which will better ignite the air fuel mixture leading to more power. Iridium center for increased durability. Hand made in Japan and constructed to withstand the most extreme racing environments.
