As per the title, although I am reasonably happy with the performance of my recently acquired V6, I'd like to know what limits the power output to it's 160odd bhp. Anyone here know much about tuning this engine???

But only 147 ft/lbs of torque. That engine was used in the Galant VR-M.... And Zedy (who bought one) found the V6-24 engine quicker, on account of the Galants extra weight.

Think the sport has better set up suspension, don't know about the other bits. Mine is a sport and a manual, not a big fan of auto's, my sister has an FTO and couldn't get used to it at all. What power output is the V6 24V? My sport is apparently just under 160 bhp.

Hmm... Interesting your comments on the suspension. V6 Sports come under a lot of fire on here for having suspension that's a bit 'skittish'. A set of progressive-rate lowering springs sorts things out though.

Regarding power outputs. This seems to vary, depending on the year, but I've only ever seen Mitsubishi quote an official figure of 161bhp.

It was just an assumption about the sport and handling, never driven any others so don't know. Most other manufacturers put sports suspension on to produce a sport version rather than producing more power, how else could there be a clio sport 1.2??!!! I understand you owned a sport Kieran, my suspension seems superb for a car this size, what do the progressive rate springs do?

Rather than explain, have a read of these ;)

Also, search for the terms 'eibach' and you should get the general idea

I think that Sport versions have the same suspension like standard galant. Only with that 17" alloys it looks better. But Iam seriously interested in your change :)

well i suppose i shall yield to the relenting pressure of the CVR4 nosey bleeders society , the planned mod was an fto inlet manifold , the one with the variable inlet tracts , the plan was to fit this and come up with a controller for the stepper motor , this should have the benefit of a variable power / torque curve , this being more advantageous in the higher gears . but as with all great plans something silly was to be the undoing of it , this silly thing is a pipe cast into the inlet manifold of the V6 , it connects to the diaphragm on the left side of the manifold , and of course the fto one doesn't have it , my plan was to trace it back to source and bypass it with an external pipe but funds and time got in the way , and someone offered twice what i paid for the manifold so that was the end of that , I'm sure if another comes up i will have another go

I would imagine with an exhaust, new intake (like on Gly's car) and a fuel controller you would be close to 200hp, and if you still wanted more you could get a custom set of cams made up :)

nah in reality given half a chance the heads would be skimmed and ported , and then a decent induction set up (webber alpha on trumpets ) would do for a start

: /Banana i think i,ve done all i can to make mine quicker, (feels quicker anyway) sounds great .
mods include
1. de-cat and custom s/steel exhaust
2.hks evo 7 induction kit
3. hks iridium spark plugs
4. forced air induction ram pipe
5 high octane petrol at all times
don,t know bhp figures yet, but will put on rolling road soon
as for skitish handling, eibach sport springs, koni gas adjustable shocks, front struct brace and 18 inch alloys 235/40x18 yoko's, seem to have put any pay to being skitish:thinking2 supercharger only way to go
