Hi everybody

I have a legnum VR4 on the way from Japan, but the auction sheet didn't say if it is a type S or V, what is the easiest way to tell?

Cheers

Type S are usually a Tiptronic. It will also need ASC/TC and AYC

You do need the other two as well.

Is it facelift or not? If it is a facelift type s it will have the wheel arches on it

Someone really needs to put up the correct listing for different specs between V and S. Facelift models can come in type V and S, manual or autos, preface lift come in type S only, manual or auto.

Difference outside between facelift type V and S, Type S has wheel arc flares, boot spoiler, different alloys (design and width, 225/50/16).

If you look through that page there is all the differences listed.

That's not right either..... The pre-facelift VR-4s were either 'VR-4' or 'VR-4 Type-S'.

I agree, we need to correctly index the differences. And it just so happens that I have something to help us. Sometimes Ebay comes up trumps! :scholar:

Thanks guys.

It is pre-facelift, I have no idea whether or not it has AYC and TCS so I will just have to wait a few weeks to find out.

I believe that AYC means it is a type s.

As it is a pre faclift car, has a manual transmission and AYC I'd say it is just a VR4....

as Keiran says PRE facelift (pre98) versions came in "VR4" and "VR4 type-s" versions.

PRE-FACLIFT:

-the "VR4 type-s" is tiptronic and has AYC, ASC and TC....

-the "VR4" is a manual 5 speed and has AYC...... (and is lighter than the type-s)

Please feal free to correct me but from all I have read I believe this to be correct.

Okay I got a S and a neither... do i hear anything else?... Come on i'm dying to know. Straight Japan import. Is there any marking on the car that would identify it... such as on a plate or something?

I heard mention on this board about AYC with just one light on start up and the 3 bar AYC. This has the 3 bar AYC display. Plus the Sticker on the door sill says 205/55/16s. According to the Quick spec page the tire size corresponds to the V. So is it right?.

/haz Well I dont have much occasion to carry anything sizeable and If I did there are other cars for that.. but if I must, the box can be taken out easily and the amps and the rest of the equipment are on a palette that can be removed if need be.

I was sure, but now I am doubting myself after Dan's comment!! There is no-where to look to find a badge or anything AFAIK.
All the AYC systems are the same. The one light on start up is the red AYC warning light in the bottom right of the dash display. All the 8g VR4 AYC sytems have the three green bars.
All pre-facelift VR4's came with 205 wide tyres, type s or not, they only increased them to 225 on the facelift type s.
