For those of you not in the know, the MAF adapter for the V6 is the same shape as the VR4. This means that the kits that fit the VR4 will fit the V6 too, i.e. the cone and mushroom filters.

Morning...

I picked up my K&N filter yesterday 30.50 ex VAT (35.84 inc) I picked up mine from power engineering and avoided delivery costs.

I know this is slightly OT but:

I just got back from a major blat on the roads having replaced my BMC induction with the standard airbox and K&N panel filter.. after about 8 months. And difference is noticeable ,Top end power is restored again altho initial pickup feels a fraction slower. Having said that I no longer get the boost cut with 0.95 bar boost which I assume is down to reduced airflow... Additionally the boost level peaks higher (just over 1 bar) then settles down, whereas before it would rise to 0.9 and stay there till high end RPM.

The G-Tech registered 4 sub 6 second runs.. the best being 5.8, something I was unable to do with the aftermarket induction.

I know that there have been many discussions about changing induction and everyone has had different experiences... In my case the standard box was better but I really feel that the K&N panel was a large contributing factor.. the standard OEM filter did not perform like this before I used the BMC filter.

Cheers

I have a ralliart panel filter, and it did seem to make a difference when I got it, I can't say I notice it anymore (had it about 3 month)

Part number (in japan anyway) RA266849K1

I think standard airbox and a decent panel filter is the way to go...

The panel filter contributes to only 3% of the restriction in an air intake system...

I'm not sure I understand that statistic. Could you increase the info please? Where is the other 97% of the restriction?

Do you mean that the panel filter only changes flow by 3%?

When I put a K&N on my V6 Sport last year, it took weeks as they had to come from USofA via DemonTweaks, can't remeber exactly but around the £30 mark. Well worth it.

Yup the car has new lease of life going back to standard airbox (with K&N panel) top end pull feels good again and inter-gear pick up gives a real kick (esp with stronger full recirc valve back in place) I also have boost back up peaking at a smidgen over 1 bar WITHOUT fuel cut again..Yeeehaaa! :evil2:

Sorry Nick, yes - 3% of the total restriction. There's an excellent Autospeed article - 'eliminating negative boost' which shouyld be a must-read for everyone. Do you have a copy?

Just bringing back an old post, but this is the link to the so mentioned article as I had just read it and didn't see any link on the forum to it: http://autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=0629

put a radio under the bonnet!

Could always try a diesel engine!

Seriously though, it all depends on how modified the car is - if it's standard MAF and ECU then stick with panel filter, it is the easiest option with best performance. Have a search through this site, there is lots or threads on filters

i also heard off my mate whos a genius tuna, that taking off the cam covers works pretty well for increasing flow and noise

More noise from under the bonnet...

Drain the oil then dash to the shops....

Should get that V6 and the turbos making a cracking noise

For more immediate noise drain the radiator as well

And make space in cabin for the odd rod or two perhaps...

Seriously, forget more noise just have best air filter for the car - a panel filter

To answer the specific question, sticking an induction kit on will give it a real nice noise. K&N 57i type stuff (other pod/cone filters are available!).

But as has already been mentioned, you are, at best, going to suffer from a small power loss. At worst, significant power loss, dodgy MAF readings, etc.

I have a mint condition HKS mushroom filter if you want. PM me if you are interested. I took it off my car when I bought it fitted.

It will come complete ready to fit right onto your car. I'm a little busy this weekend with a wedding, but I'll sort out a pic or two after then.
