I recently contacted a silicon hose company with the view of creating hoses to replace all the black rubber hoses that make up the turbo/intercooler/air intake pipework.

I am a member of the VR4 owners club and Ive just been pricing up a number of intercooler hoses from your site and because of the complexity of some of them they endup being quite expensive and the sizes arn`t exactly what we need. I was wondering if you do moulding for complexed pipework? Im sure we could sell quite a few kits if the price was right.

Now they have come back with the following reply
Thank you for your enquiry.
In order to produce a custom hose we either have to ask you for the cost of the tooling or if we have to set a minimum order quantity so that we can at least recover the part tooling cost on the first order.
Based on the description of you hoses the tooling cost for hoses you describe would be approx £300
Alternatively if you did not wish to pay the tooling cost we would ask for a minimum order of 20 hose kits before we would start production.
In both cases we would need a set of original hoses as the pattern and the process would take approx 8 weeks.
What I might suggest as a cheaper and more convenient alternative, unless you wish to commit to the above expenditure, is that you stick to your original idea of combining the components we already produce and I offer you and your fellow club members a 10% discount off our website prices. Alternatively if you and your fellow members wish to purchase 5 sets of the hoses you have identified I can increase the discount to 20%.
So my question to you guys, who would be interested in a set of custom hoses to replace those nasty expanding black ones. Once I get a rough idea of numbers I will have a chat with them and find out a price for the kit based on the number of orders I get.
