need some advice, had a rattle and thought it was coming from the manifold, seems to be the we heat shield under the manifold, covering some sort of device. hmmmm, not mechanically minded but i might be thinking it could be the starter motor, anyhooo. does this we heatshield really need to stay on???? or do you think the heat from the manifold itself could melt the wires behind it.??? cheers guys.

Mitsi put it there for a reason.
You'll be okay in the short term but over time your starter motor and it's cabling will be cooked.

if you really can't stop the heat shield rattling (can you bend it a bit?) - why not just buy some exhaust wrap for the part of the manifold that goes closest to the starter.
