Richie

Glad to hear you are ok mate but that was a lucky escape

How bad is the car really ? What extent/cost is the damage likely to be ?

Ohh, and at least the wheels are still in one piece I assume ?

Guess from what you are saying though it was worth it !

what an excellent track it was the most challenging drive ever i took it easy on th first lap turned up the power on the second and was flying on the third i was out cornering 2 gt3's and have video of me out cornering a 355 but unfortunatly the wheels werent quite up to it but i knew the risks and it was wel worth it the footage is top line ill post some stills if i can work out how but the car is ok the brakes are cooked and the tracking is slightly out but drive wise its fine i still toured through france doing 800miles and topped the car out again so im not too concerned and to top it all i left the bikes with me for dead! and the look on the german gt3 drivers face as four lads in an estate overtook him into 2 corners was fantastic!

Have you tried Godspeed Motorsport. They have a good website and are reasonably priced. I have just bought a VR4 and am already considering upgrading. It is about £900 for Brembo's!!

richieelliott

I bought Brembos from someone on the MLR - nearly new INSERT INTO post VALUES (1500 miles) off an Evo VII FQ300 - for £500. That was for front 4-pot calipers and hoses, front 320mm discs, rear 2-pot calipers and hoses.

Front discs replace existing ones, front calipers are a straight replacement for the existing ones, but you need to discard the disc backplate. Also need 17" wheels to clear the calipers INSERT INTO post VALUES (I bought 17" wheels off an Evo VII because I wanted standard Mitsubishi wheels and they were guaranteed to fit :) ).

Rear discs replace existing ones, rear calipers are a straight replacement for the existing ones, but you need to burr the edge off the disc backplate so it doesn't rub on the INSERT INTO post VALUES (larger) disc.

Very impressed with mine

You could always go for Tarox (http://www.tarox.com/english.html) 10-pot  calipers :D

richieelliott

oh the choice is growing ! but so is the price!

See you 'stacked it' at Wehrseifen

The slowest corner on the track probably

richieelliott
02-09-2003, 05:43 PM
yes unfortunatly speed had little to do with tyre coming off rim

chris g
02-09-2003, 05:45 PM
It is a tricky right then left

The camber throws you out and losing control takes you into the armco

Spirit
02-09-2003, 05:49 PM
How did you get off the track mate ? Take it you did not have 2 spare tyres ?

richieelliott
02-09-2003, 05:49 PM
yes through the right the car held on well until i heard a grind as the rear wheel dug in and through us four into the armco was a glancing hit on the left hand armco and left us in the middle of the track with me laughing

richieelliott
02-09-2003, 05:51 PM
no 175 euros gets you a ride off the track and a bloke in the ring mini who id been chatting with previous sorted us out enough to get to koblenz

chris g
02-09-2003, 05:55 PM
You were lucky

A few cars have had really serious damage and injuries going thru that corner, losing it and hitting the armco

Too much weight? INSERT INTO post VALUES (passengers); a little too much speed? and change of direction? = tyres protest and come off?

richieelliott
02-09-2003, 06:00 PM
came in quick but not too quick had gone round as quick lap previous about 40 stone of fat sailors in the back and the tyre just went. dunno if it was the weight or the angle but it was The Best rush i have ever had.
met twist and he said i was lucky he expected much worse
but im going back next year defo the video footage is top line got a front and rear view on one lap spliced it together and its ace

chris g
02-09-2003, 06:23 PM
Was the rush the place and the laps, or the crash?

Even with passengers I would not have expected tyres to have moved off rim unless change of direction AND excess speed on that bend

I assume it was the end of your laps or did you get repairs and get back on track?

It could have happened at a number of other higher speed bends where camber goes away - a recent photo of such an accident showed a car that rolled and totalled the car but no deaths thank goodness

Lower speed on that bend prob saved you and car from destruction - other bends would have been less forgiving

have more fun, go with people who know the track - save money, go as a passenger and still have fun and get to know the place better

A VR-4 vs 2 GT3s, now that is what I like to see. Sorry you lost your tyres et.al. However, this just proves to all that the VR-4 is a car to have.

If a GT3 was pushing on at the Ring then the VR-4 could not get near it so I guess the GT3 drivers were either:

having more fun than racing
or they were posers
or they were getting to know the track

before leaving the VR-4 in their tyre marks
and perhaps the VR-4 was going faster than them at a series of bends where you need to be quite slow

Believe me, we cannot keep up with a serious GT3 driver at the Ring

What sort of tyre pressures were you running?

richieelliott
03-09-2003, 08:59 AM
chris is right there were somer very fast porshes there that left many people myself included for dead, but the 2 i was trying to have werent as experienced or werent as prepared to take the risks as anyone else but however they werent hanging about!
the whole thing was one big rush and who wants to be a passenger?

chris g
03-09-2003, 09:14 AM
Someone who might crash going too fast too soon?
