Seems it's been on the boil for quite a while. I've got some pretty hefty rumbles when the car is in 4th at low revs, and yes a transmission flush was performed some six months ago which cured it for a short time. The car is also throwing a fairly heavy change up into fifth when I'm giving it some gas.

I've been to my local mitsi garage and they don't seem keen to get involved until something breaks, which I can appreciate as this could become a fairly hefty bill for some fault finding alone. The AYC fluid was also changed 4 months ago so as you may appreciate I'm a little concerned.

I'm also at a bit of a loss to find someone in the extreme south west who is capable of fixing the problem?. I'm in Redruth and the gearbox specialist I spoke to hadn't dealt with an INVECS 2 system.

What's the worst it could be? /help

Rumbles........ Hmmm............. /Hmmm

Does the car 'Shudder' on light throttle in 4th? Sounds like the common 'Shudder' fault if so..... Fixed not just by flushing and refilling with ATF, but flushing and refilling with the *CORRECT* ATF, or using a supplement. My car had this fault and has been completley cured by filling with correct-spec fluid. No, the dealer will use Dexron-III.... And that's not good enough! Fix it or else your damper plates will give up and you'll be in the same position as Pescha was.... I.E. Rebuild time!! /help

I've written a couple of articles that will help.

This one explains why ATF is so important:

And here's how to change it:

See, I thought it might not have been all that bad.

Would it also cure the 'I want to stall after a long run when pulled up at some traffic lights' thing I've got going on?.

Possibly.... This can also a symptom of a knackered dump valve... The diagphram splits and leaks air at the wrong moment, so after a run on boost, your car comes to a stop, the air fuel ratio goes all wrong and it splutters and hesitates, sometimes it does stall.

I'd read about the dump valve thing eslewhere and though the car has never ever stalled, it tries pretty hard to. Can the dump valve be upgraded or is it simply better to replace?.

I really must be brave and do this myself, it seems it's the only it's going to get done correctly.
