I have a standard 2002 model am bored of the warranty thing now. want to know what I have to do to the gearbox to avoid the torque converter eating any power upgrades I go for and how much can the box take.

You can't really help the torque convertor situation - it'll always lop off a certain percentage of your engine's power.
I guess there must be auto 'boxes and convertors that have different viscous properties for sportier drives, but I'd give up on that one to be honest.
Anyway - say your 'box soaks up about 5% INSERT INTO post VALUES (ball-park figure) of available tractive force - It'll still do that wether you're pushing 2 or 200bhp, so you'll still feel some benefit from increaing your engine's output.

I'm not sure what the INVECS-II can handle in standard form.

I don't know how much the box can handle either but the main and first killer is the oil getting too hot, so an oil cooler will help the gearbox cope with more power.
