(Hope i am not taking a liberty by posting this as a new thread instead of posting on the other gearbox thread but this is very mportant to me.)

Following on from my thread about a noisey gearbox this is just in case i need one.

My car is booked in on Monday 3rd Oct for a new clutch and i hope it is just the release bearing that is making the noise. Quoted £ 360 + vat for a LUK or AP clutch incl fitting.

If not i will need another gearbox or mine rebuilt. I do not want to be without the car for to long so knowing i can get hold of another one would be a bonus.

Few questions
Are all the 24v v6 manual gearboxes the same, mine is in a MY00 car?
are there differences if not?
Are they avaliable, has anyone got one?
How much, happy to pay cash and collect (within 200 miles of Northampton) if needed.

Many thanks

Paul

Only £1500 for a new one.....
including fitting you lucky people! Thanks for the offer Paul, i am clinging onto the hope it is the clutch but with my luck (or lack of it) i could be in the poo.

I cannot afford a n ew one even at £ 1500.00 but have located a s/hand unit.

If my gearbox is fecked - just noisey (not damaged) then i will need the new(er) s/h one and mine would be avaliable to rebuild if anyone would like to make me an offer or if i do not need the new(er) one then i would be happy to supply the details of the new(er) one. It is in a low miles write off - heavy rear damage.

what was the outcome habbers - box fixed or fecked?

what was the outcome habbers - box fixed or fecked?Fecked but it sounds like it is just the input shaft/bearings that have worn. no damage or holes in it. I have located and newer box with 42K miles on it for
£ 300.00 + Vat and that includes shipping and 6 months warranty. The chassis numbers are compatible between the donor car and mine so jobs a good 'un.

My old gearbox will be avaliable. I have thought about getting it rebuilt and selling it on but it is all time, money, space and hastle none of which i have or need. I have been advised it could be around £ 300.00 - 400.00 to rebuild the old box but it could take a couple of weeks (for parts) which means hiring a car which would cost say £ 200.00 or so so cost wise this is not for me

I would rather my old gearbox went to benefit someone else who need one - at a price of course! :)

just replied....btw where did you find the other box? I'd rather have a knackered one than a good on to be honest.

How can you sell a gearbox that will cost most to fix than a replacement 2nd hand one costs ?

As stated
i do not know how much it is worth - i would like £ 120.00 for it

I have bought a second hand unit for £ 300+ VAT
I understand a recon is woth about £ 700-800.00 and to recon min would be around £ £ 300-400.00 so i do not understand what you are getting at. assuming mine is bought for £ 100.00 then a total of £ 500.00 incl a reconditioning which if my maths is correct is cheaper than £ 700-800.00.

I have not really researched the recon/secondhand market as it only took me an hour on the internet to locate a low miles secondhand unit at what i think is a good price.

FWIW - Aparrently Mitsubishi will refund £ 200.00 for a servicable exchange unit against a new one

I thought a starting point of £ 120.00 seemed OK but as i said i dco not know what it is worth, can you provide me with examples to compare it with? :)

You offered £ 50.00 which seems low for a servicable gearbox but that is IMHO :)

£75 is my final offer if you can deliver it to the Ibis this saturday. I dont think zedy1 will pay more as he buys whole cars for less that that.

However Zedi1 does not have any Galant Manual gearboxes as i asked him. :)

TBH if they are rare and it only took me an hour or so to find one then i must just be lucky
