Misfire / metal on metal?

I have what seems like a misfire that sounds like metal hitting metal sound when it does. Happens through all the gears when powering about 2000 - 4000rpm. Seems okay above that... Also happens when in high gear with low revs. Compression checked out fine, Plugs replaced. Number 1 chamber seems to get a damp spark plug too. Any ideas anyone? /help

Update! On taking the air inlet sensor plug out, it runs without the misfire. Now I'm really lost... Putting it back in comes up with the same misfire. Would changing that help?

Panic over I think. Flushed out engine, new oil, some hydraulic valve substitute, some injector cleaner, a new air filter and driving around like a man possessed for a day done the trick. Let's hope it doesn't come back...
