Hi

I am considering purchasing a vr-4 on an X plate INSERT INTO post VALUES (2000). This is an ex company car but has 150,000 miles on the clock INSERT INTO post VALUES (mainly motorway). It has been serviced by a dealer every 4,000 miles. Is this worth looking at considering the mileage.

Any help would be mucho obliged

Mick

Hi Mick
I guess yes its worth looking at depending on the Price ???
But 15000 miles is very high mileage for a VR4
But as you say serviced every 4000 miles is good
You can also get a red zebra warranty for about £263 which will cover most parts
Good luck

Nick

Every 4000 miles.......geeesh thats once a month!!!! Expensive!

Tell me about this Red Zebra warranty? How do I get one? Are there any restrictions? what does it cover? Has anyone claimed on it?

My 99 VR4 has done 48000 miles and for <£300 a peace of mind warranty sounds like a bargain!

I got mine through my Mits garage it was easier doing it that way
But some Mits places are charging £400+ as the VR4 was classed differently
VR4's now are in the same group of other 4wd cars ie. Pinn shogun etc

Plus this warranty covers MOT as well
So if it fails MOT they pay for it to get through excluding the MOT fee and thing like worn tyres exhaust etc

But if you havent a mits garage near you ....
you can try this # FREEPHONE 0500 011 922

I dont know if there ask for the service book

Going through my book
It says in the whats not covered
Components which have been modified from Manufactures spec ?

Hope this helps

As Nick says it is high mileage for a VR-4 and if the owner treated it how the VR-4 likes to be treated I hope you are ready for repairs.
Make sure it is cheap.

Red Zebra payed out for a replacement AYC pump on mine a couple of months ago, they are said to cost around £2,000!!
Yes it is a good idea! :D :D

The car itself is a directors car so I don't think it will have been thrashed. Just high speeds on the motorway I imagine. £5500 they want for it.

that sounds cheap for an x reg compared to 15k +

I don't think Red Zebra will cover the car if it's done more than 100k miles.

Wow £5500 that is a good price for a VR4 imho
Ok so its got a shed load of miles on the clock but as you say its been serviced every 4000 miles and hopefully the belts etc have been done also

If the car is in good condition in its self ie paint wise etc

I would seriously think about buying it

Deffo a good deal by the sounds of it!

H7, your car is pushing high miles now isn't it? I've never seen you here complaining about anything! apart from tracking, ball joints and bushes I believe?

Not too bad - just coming up for its 63k miles service next week. Only problems have been the gearbox seal INSERT INTO post VALUES (replaced under warrenty); track rod ends INSERT INTO post VALUES (which I paid for) and steering rack joints INSERT INTO post VALUES (again, under warranty). Tracking wasn't done properly after that so I had a laser alignment done and it's been perfect since. Regular dealer servicing is key to reliability, imho :) I anticipate keeping the car for another year INSERT INTO post VALUES (till around 90k miles) before changing, IF I can find something equivalent INSERT INTO post VALUES (now there's the challenge ;) ).

That's Right. The Red Zebra used car warranty covers cars of any age, up to 100K miles according to the info I've got. Considering it myself, since the GLS has 88K on the clock...

H7 I thought you were pushing 100k.. must have just got the wrong impression.
63k is nothing.

The car is a sallon dark grey colour ralliart edition. No idea currently what the diff is between the ralliart ver and the standard vr4.

Brind

Ralliart is the official importers now going by the name of Xtreme, although in dealer showrooms they still say Ralliart and display Ralliart signs.

I would go for it though, even if you get 50k from it, it will be best 50k miles you've ever done. :)

Are there any differences in specification though, this particular vehicle also claims to be a UK car. Thought the VR4 was an import?

Brind
05-09-2003, 11:40 PM
They are all technically imports, none are actually built here.

Ralliart import them and make them legal for use here, they normally spend more time to make the extra legal components fit and work as if the car came straight off the shelf as it were.

Grey imports, those that come from unofficial dealers are made legal but just fit the components so they are functional, obviously some will take the time to do a great job of it.

All Jap cars are speed restricted to approximately 115mph, not all grey importers will bother to remove that limit whereas Ralliart do.

I am getting it, the first MOT is due 19th of Sept. They are putting it through that before they sell it to me. Just thinking 'tan leather' hmm. It also has from what I've been told £1500 - £2000 worth of sound system in it. This is a company directors car and hes 50+. Born again racer boy me thinks.

Roadrunner

Some of us 50+ guys aren't "born again" racer boys, we've always been this way :D :D :D

V reg Ralliart??? I don't suppose the numbers after the V are similer to 817 and 818 are they?? :D
Simon owns the 817 and I own the 818, could be very interesting to meet another VR-4 with the same plate.
