... a five point drop from the 100 our VR-4 are designed to run on.

see article here (http://www.consumer.org.nz/newsitem.asp?category=News&docid=2358&sTitle=Cleaner%20petrol%20and%20diesel%20on%20the% 20way&topic=Cleaner%20petrol%20and%20diesel%20on%20the%2 0way) for more details.

Just glad I can get and run my car on 98.

anyone heard that add for wynns octane booster on the radio? they CLAIM its cheaper to buy a bottle of wynns octane booster which you can use for 3 fuel tanks and use 96 then it is to run on 98 and you get the benefit of running 100octane when you use 96 and wynns octane booster?

i might have to put that to the test

only problem is gas stations around work use 98 and gas stations around home use 98 so i'll have to go outta my way to get 96...hope that makes sense

Filling in the Blanks (so far as I can)...

Only Mobil and BP have 98 octane, called Mobil 8000 and BP Ultimate respectively.
All others do 96 (now changed to 95 as per international standard... blah blah)

I totally agree though... go 98. I've been using 96 and feeling a little insecure about it, but now that it's dropped I'm not prepared to risk it.

Just have to convince the wife though... she don't think in octane ratings! /Hmmm

In the UK, we've always had 97/98 and 95RON petrol. On 95, some people have got away with it, but most people have posted that the ECU pulls back the output by what feels like about 50bhp. Never dared try it myself.

Go with 98 - Your VR-4 will love you for it.

Its reported at 97. however as most should know octane rating is a bit airy fairy and is not nessecarily accurate.

I do know this though. Gull cannot be used in Kart racing due to its specific gravity (i think thats what they measure) being higher than standard 96 from the other companies. not sure if its all classes of Kart racing, but the one my friend is in that is the case.

Apparently Gull is pretty good gas
