Hi - Can you explain the difference.

Is the bumper for the 98 galant vr4 easy to get from a mitshubishi dealer? How much do you think? Cheers

are you after this type? like on Barry's car
"pre facelift"
http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/vbgarage.php?do=getimage&id=4

not sure if this is available from the dealer's, have you tried Mo (ZEDY 1)

or the type on Bill T's car
"facelift"
http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/vbgarage.php?do=getimage&id=1039

i know the "facelift" one can be bought through dealer's....can't recall the price /Hmmm about £250 (give or take a few ££) and the fog light's to match are a :rolleyes4 silly price /yes...... :inquisiti think they are dearer than the bumper

The shape changed late in 98. So it will depend on which part of 98 you are talking about!!

I've found out today that the car is first registered December 1998

The rear of the car looks like

The Old Bumper looks like

The New bumper looks like

As a newbie to Galant VR4's will this be a decent replacement?

Also any idea where I can get matching front fogs (Or whatever go in the holes?)

Cheers

Ooops..... That's not a VR-4 bumper - It's the pre-facelift standard version (as fitted to lower Jap Imports and the UK-Spec GLS & V6-24).

Not sure if that's significant or not..... The VR-4 bumper is deeper, and I would hazard a guess that this is because of the impact bar and the intercooler behind the bumper.

Does it fit okay if you offer it up?

If it does - phew! Then as it's the same as the UK-Spec bumpers, a scrappie should yield a pair of UK-Spec Pre-facelift fogs.

Wor lasses dad is doing up the car for me and he got this bumper for it. I dont really want to spend much more dosh on it than I have to at the minute so if it fits I get it fitted.

How much do you thik the fogs will be?? Will it just be fogs or indicator to? Thanks for your help here - I'm a total newbie and havent seen a unmodified galant VR4 upclose

Kieran

The indicators are part of the headlamp unit on VR-4s- So that should be okay.

As for how much the fogs will be.... I must admit I've no idea. You could always make up some wire-mesh blanks for the interim and paint them black - I think Pezz did that with his old V6-24 (he fitted a facelift bumper to that).

The fogs you will need are for the 1996-1999 Pre-facelift UK Galant, model codes EA2A/W or EA5A/W. Note that pre-facelift VR-4 fogs (1996-1998, EC5A/W) are unlikely to fit.

You could try dropping a private message to Zedy1 - Mo is our resident parts man - he mainly has VR-4 bits, but he sometimes gets a UK-Spec car for breaking.

i guess galants arent as popular in the UK as in the US. in the US, we can get a used OEM bumper from the junkyard or another owner for $50-$100 USD. on ebay, there are plenty for sale. is there an "aftermarket" for galants in europe? the main reason why there are so many bumpers for sale is because a lot of people put on body kits.

that said, i am also looking for a 96-98 vr4 front bumper but i guess i'll have to wait in line :inquisiti

I've been told in the UK because so many Galants are involved in traffic accidens bumpers are the hardest things to get (Obvious reasons!) (Might need to check my brakes)

Very few people fit kits to Galants in the UK. Most of them are left as factory. Therefore second hand bumpers are hard to find.

And as Kieran has said, your best bet is to PM a user on these forums called Zedy1. If there's a VR4 being ripped apart, chances are he's doing the ripping!

I've sent a pm to Zedy1 - Just waiting now...

I'm looking forward to the end of the month when he car is mine!

Are they any magazines for the Galant in the UK?

Are they any magazines for the Galant in the UK?

Nope!

Very few people even have a parts list for them. There have been articles in Japanese Performance Magazine, and more recently, J-Tuner magazine. That is as famous as you get!

This is the best place for technical and modifying info specific to the 8G VR4, but there are other sites for the 8G galant and earlier versions of the VR4.

Another reason that bumpers are scarce is that they're easy to break... mine was £45 on ebay + £50 painting...

sorry to jack the thread a bit but how easy is it to get a facelift bumpre to fit a GLS? i really like these bumpers and would love one on my car ....

Should just bolt straight on Bal - a former member (Dmac 1969) did this exact conversion. You'll need the facelift radiator grille too though, or you'll have a gap on the top!

A bumper from a Mitsubishi Main Pilferer will cost about £250 (Yes I wanted to do the same with my GLS).
