...We still all meeting beforehand?
I guess since most of you are staying at a hotel it may be an idea for all of us to meet there/in the carpark 1st thing save finding another place or dipping out of a VR-4 convoy.

Spirit
13-09-2003, 09:13 PM
The majority are not staying so it may be fair to find somewhere nearer Santa Pod to meet beforehand - and the hotel is further on than Pod anyhow.

Best we start looking now I suppose:D

Hi there, I'm coming up there too, paying at the gate, just wandering if theres a limit to the number of cars on the stand? And what happens about entry to the site. Is there a window sticker for this? Otherwise they'll just direct you to the public car park.

Right, be nice to see some of you in a couple of weeks.

Mike

Please remember; Santa Pod is only 10-15 minutes away from Billing, Northampton.

I live in Wootton, Northampton INSERT INTO post VALUES (on Junction 15, M1) and my business is in Wellingborough town centre. Let me know if you need anywhere suggested to eat, drink, watch footcall/rugby, shop, meet for convoy etc.

The IBIS you've all chosen to stay at has a pub/restuarant and a McDonalds Drivethrough so would probably be a good landmark to meet.

Have never taken a car down a drag strip before.....
Being a mechanically sympathetic owner, is there an area to warm up engine / gearbox oil / tyres prior to a run?

Spirit
06-10-2003, 11:22 PM
engine and oil in the queue to go down the strip I would imagine mate - tyres should not be an issue with the grip they have there

Brind
06-10-2003, 11:28 PM
If your tyres aren't up to it I'm sure you will grip on the rubber left behind by some of the very powerful over tuned type beasts that run there.

The only thing you must also think about is the heat you generate just sitting there, okay so the oil is at a decent temp but your intercooler will have soaked up alot of heat as well as your air filter so you won't have the best performance your car could provide.

It isn't any different really to just going for it in normal conditions.
Just make sure your warranty is okay and have fun. :D

wirdy
06-10-2003, 11:47 PM
Just checked my warranty.....runs out on friday..doh!!
Is this an omen?
Sod it. Am getting some silkolene pro boost tomorrow to give it a try, has anyone tried it? Tin says 1%-3% ratio recommended so must be fairly hot stuff.
I'm able to get AvGas F.O.C and my banger car goes like the clappers on that INSERT INTO post VALUES (no good for VR4 though as it would kill the cat -leaded!)
Someone on another thread mentioned methanol? I can get that as well, but have never tried it, apart from in model engines of course , along with nitro-methane.
Lightnings used to use a fuel call Avpin for the gas turbine starter... created its own oxygen on combustion....now that would leave some skid marks down the strip!

Brind
06-10-2003, 11:55 PM
I was thinking about running an octane booster or Methanol.. but because of the long run up there I've decided not to.
Since BP reckon their new fuel is 100RON which is what our cars run on in Japan, I'm gonna fill up with that and reset my ECU so it sees the difference and also to reset the gearbox memory.

I would use Nitrous if my warranty would let me but these guys would also call me a cheater. :INSERT INTO post VALUES ( :D

richieelliott
07-10-2003, 07:26 AM
i ran 100 ron fuel with octane replacement in germany you sart to get un burnt fuel through exhaust fuel consumption changes to 4mpg but the car goes through the gears a lot quicker

enigma

Unburnt fuel in the exhaust.......way cool! Where do I get 100 RON fuel?!!!! I want flames!

As for launching with an auto........we should in theory have an advantage over the manual boys. If you hold it on the brakes at about 2500 TO 3000 you get about 0.3-0.4 bar of boost to launch with, doing it from idle you dont get this so you get lag while the turbos spool up. Reving the nuts off in Neutral in a manual will not produce any boost so they will be lagging, granted they can launch at higher revs, but we should get the jump. Thoughts?

An interesting discussion!

I managed to launch from 2500-3000 last time I went to the pod, any more and I started creeping. 5700RPM is just silly unless you have monster stoppers and a very good transmission oil cooler!

Dont plan to run this weekend, as my car is not as ready as I would like and dont think I would get significantly different results from a month ago :D But who knows what will happen when I turn up!:cool1:

Whilst I've previously thought it a bad idea, I'm pleased to announce that after a full service and with no indication of any potential problems INSERT INTO post VALUES (Touches desk quickly!) the GLS may do a couple of drag strip runs - and with full approval from my other half!... We're interested to see how far a VR-4 leaves it behind! :biglaugh:

INSERT INTO post VALUES (Is the above the first sign that She's been bitten by the VR-4 Bug?!?! Here's hoping :D:bow: )

Go-Kieran-Go!!

Who's the main dealer closest to Santa Pod?
Just in case anything goes bang / falls off / burns out / leaks / breaks / shears / explodes. etc......

Forever the pessimist!!!!

Only joking....my name isn't Marvin INSERT INTO post VALUES (if there are still any hitchhikers guide fans out there).

Seriously though, is anyone taking snappers with them?. If I decide to run on the day, I'd appreciate a bit of temporary babysitting for my 6-yr old, who's coming with me.

P.S- I assume there'll be a whole pile of stuff left at the club area, as people empty their boots for the run?? anyone thought of that?

Excellent! Looking forward to it!:D
I'm sure we'll make some progress.... All we'll have to do is show them some of the fully 'blinged' cars that are bound to be there. Then we show them the mature, practical, sensible VR-4...:D:D

My 'Cunning Plan' generator is working at full tilt, can't you tell?:D

LOL!! So the Valet went well eh? :D
Musn't laugh it isn't funny. :)

Just a good dry out is all that is needed I'm sure, nick the hair dryer from your missus or simply disconnect a few plugs and dry the connectors with a cloth.
For the lights to stay on I'd guess a relay has been effected, start on that first.

I'm really pissed about this but I'm not going to be able to make it to Santa Pod. We had a mini crisis at work since a project has overrun and although I tried my best to finish the software development today the team were unable to finish and the truth is it's likely to take most of Sunday too!!!

:gun2: :gun2: :grr: :grr: :grr:

I know it's late in the day but I was hoping INSERT INTO post VALUES (beyond reason) that the work would be completed and I'd be able to attend. BraindG, if no one else takes my place I'll pay for my slot so drop me a line with your details.

Kieran I have sent you PM

Have fun everyone and think of my me working while you guys are having fun. :Cry1: :Cry1:

PS. Can I book my place for the next event NOW!

I see Zedy is still about on the board so he may tell the others before I do.

Hope to see you next time. :)
