My that is cute:D

Just had a quick nose on Google and the Mitsy TD04 turbo looks like it has been used in other cars such as Saab 900 and Scooby Imprezzas :Ponder:

BraindG,
Can you find out the correct model # of the VR4 turbo's ? All I can see is that it's a TD04 turbo. For example, the correct description for the GTO's turbos' are : TD04-09B-6cm2
and the factory sport upgrade is : TD04-13G-6cm2
There is also this TD04-15G-6cm2 that is bolt on upgrade for the GTO. This information is from http://www.stealth316.com/2-turboguide.htm
INSERT INTO post VALUES (very informative link)
By golly, I think I've got it. After studying the turbo guide from the above link and comparing the #'s on BraindG's turbo picture I think it's a TD04-09B-6cm2.
BraindG, is this turbo from a manual or tiptronic VR4 ? Pre or post facelift model ? Why I ask...because previously on the forum it was thought it was not a TD04 turbo used on the VR4.
Also, on the 7G VR4 the turbos' on the automatic & manual version were different, TD025L & TD025M as far as I recall and the power outputs were different as well INSERT INTO post VALUES (215hp auto & 240hp manual); just as in the tiptronic & manual pre facelift 8G VR4's. The automatic & manual Eclipse use different turbo's also...seems to be a Mitsu thing.
Phew....this post is getting long ! Anyhow, while I'm at it, BraindG, as a representative of ClubVR4 can't you approach RalliArt and perhaps get some technical specifications and information on our cars for the members ? I think it's worth a try !
Regards,
Edmund

:D
its from a pre-facelift, manual, 1998 - its off my car.
Ill try and get a proper model number off them today..

regarding ralliart/mitsubishi - i am considering contacting them for another reason... could always ask for the official technical specs, for each year/model...

Very interesting stuff this - mine is 99 auto and the turbos are not marked as TD 04's.

Maybe there is a difference between pre/post face lift or manual/auto turbos.

Also, are you sure that those are the original turbos ? You might be the lucky recipient of some larger ones.

I've looked at mine and one out of a manual 97 VR-4 and there is no name on the them like the TD-04, they only have those other numbers on them. Plus the outlet top bit of that turbo looks too small to take the pipe that goes on the top of the VR-4's engine, are u sure they came out of your car:Ponder:

Beat u a HKS SQV that those are not the VR-4's turbos.

Ah huh! Here are the VR-4's turbo's, notice the outlet has a larger exit on it so the pipe fits inside. I would say that your turbo that is pictured is from a Lancer GSR or even one of the GTO's. I also say that a rubber pipe slides over the tip of the outlet and is held in place with a hose clamp.

Gimme one HSK SQV Barry:hurrah: :D

The turbos came off my car a few of years ago when I had one replaced and one reconditioned after a problem with them on a track day.

They were really, really small, it was a well known 'turbo' specialist who did the work and when I asked about getting uprated/bigger ones I was told they a unique type and uprated ones weren't available, and fitting of bigger ones would involve lots and lots of dosh.

Well if Mossy info is correct, the turbo's are a TC03-06A. Would u believe they are used on motor bikes?

Check it out at these 2 links:

http://www.turbomotorcycles.org/Members/TechHelp_Yamaha.html

http://www.nbizz.com/motorcycletrader/listings/31.html

The later link also tells how much boost they are good for, 14.2 appears to be the max. That would explain the 13-14 psi fuel cut I guess?
