The UK-Spec 2.4GDi...... From what I've read on the net, and gleaned from a friendly technician at the local dealer, they're somewhere inbetween the 2.0 and the V6-24 in terms of power, but unless you drive with a feather foot, they are quick to switch from 'Ultra lean mode (20:1 air/fuel) to 'Superior output mode' (normal injector spray pattern and air/fuel ratios) - meaning you loose the economy benefit somewhat. The tech also said that they didn't seem as keen to rev as the V6 and the 2.0.

Hope this helps!

I think i read somewhere that UK or European spec 2.4's were not as powerful, as the jap ones (140bhp rather than 165bhp)?

Also true. Infact the Jap-Spec 1.8 GDi is more powerful (150bhp) than the UK-Spec 2.4. This is mainly because Mitsubishi had to de-tune the engines to work with UK/Euro fuel. Not only do we have lower octane fuel, but our petrol contains more sulphur than Japanese stuff - which knackers the GDi cat converter.

Mitsi dealer told me the 2.4 gdi had been a flop, just as thirsty as 2.5 but not as smoooooth. Not sure about power figures but Kieran seems to have that covered.

personaly i like 2.4 gdi more then 2.5, the engine it self lighter, and reacts on pedal faster, but that's just IMHO :)

HI all, i bought a 2.4 a couple of months ago,its a 2000 model estate, and at the moment i am (quite), pleased with it, it has got a few quirks though which i no doubt will get used to. would love to hear from anyone else who has got one and we can compare Regards Kookie :inquisiti

It amused me the other day... I was discussing SVA and ESVA rules with the (very pleasant) service manager.... His eyes did start to glaze over.. :embarasse

its misleading to have the D in the GDI as i initially thought it meant diesel

The general consensus here is that the V6 2.5 is better overall than the 2.4 gdi, similar fuel consumption, more power, and isn't as concerned about high octane petrol.

Mitsubishi have diesel direct injection engines too. They're called a DDI engines.

DI-D is the diesel moniker.

Mitsubishi themselves do not make any of the DI-D engines. The 1.9 (carisma, space-star) was sourced from renault (and has the attendant EGR and turbo reliability problems). The 2.0 DI-D (Grandis) is a VAG 2.0TDI (as in the mk5 golf). I don't know about the 3.2 DI-D... it's not a merc engine (the merc 3.2 is a V6, not I4)... it could possibly be their own.

A friend of me has an 2,4 GDI . If you drive these car normal ,you can safe much fuel .But if you drive a bit quicker the fuel save Effect is away .

These cars has much problems with the engines .The biggest problem is the Coking which cause of the Recycling of exhaust gases . If you have problem with the power or the acceleration ,you can let these coking parts -carbon blastern . It means that they shot with nutshells in the parts which are concerned .
