Browsing some of the U.S forums, alcohol injection seems to be quite popular with the Mitsubishi Evo crowd!! Anyone heard of it being done over here? Any pros or cons?

Yes - the aquamist systems will do methanol injection. You can mix up to 50% methanol with water in their sytems. Increases your octane rating. You really need to have an afermarket ECU that you can tweak to get the full benefit.

Sounds interesting :evil2:

Would this be achievable on a piggyback ECU, or would you need a standalone?

Do the aquamist systems actually help prevent DET like they claim?

The simpler aquamist sytems just run off pressure or boost, so they don't need ecu control. A bit hit & miss for my liking though. The more advanced systems just need an ECU with a separate chanel free - they're mapped just like a fuel injector.

Basically, our cars run rich because they rely on unburned fuel to absorb heat (inneficiently). If the knock sensor picks up detonation, the ecu a) retards the timing, and b) dumps even more fuel into the cylinder to absorb extra heat. Water is a much more efficient heat absorber, so the idea is you inject atomised water, and can lean out your mixture and also stop dumping extra fuel. If you add methanol, you can run higher boost/more compression. Needs a good tuner and a dyno to get the best out of it all, and you need to make sure you fill your water tank up!

I cant be sure but its worth a go, Power engineering install the aqua mist system in evos and scoobys they may be able to help you. they are in Uxbridge.

Power Engineering : 01985 255 699

I cant guarantee they can help though.
