Browsing trademe.co.nz (auction site) I've found a number of facelift Legnums which appear to have full VR-4 factory bodykits - like the 1999 Viento 1.8 GDI pictured.

If I were to buy this car and rebadge it, wouldn't it be visually identical to a Type-V VR-4? Are there any visual cues that might give it away as not being a VR-4? The tailpipe does not petrude at the back - but that's it, isn't it?

But a Type-V VR-4 does not have wheel arch extensions does it?

Not all facelift VR-4's have the wheel arches. The only thing that would tell you for sure is that the VR-4 wagons have a cutout for their exhaust, both prefacelift and facelift. The 1.8, 2.0, 2.4 and 2.5 NA cars don't have that cutout.

That car you have there also has 4 stud 15" mags, of course you would need to buy new mags that had a cover over the centre so you couldn't see how many studs it has.

My old Legnum was identical to that, a black facelift with mags that covered the centre caps, and it looked damned nice! I had so many people trying to race me, it looked much more aggresive than my facelift VR-4 does, due mainly to the bigger mags and colour (my VR-4 is ugly purple)

something I forgot to mention, my gdi Legnum had drum brakes on the back which was kind of strange, I've never seen them ever again on an 8G car, kind of strange?

The other strange thing was the chrome strip around the rear number plate, I haven't seen that on any other Legnum.

Hi was your 1.8 GDI allwheel drive? Or was it frontwheel drive?

As you commented in an earlier thread my black Legnum VR4 looks like that too.

Can't quite see from those pics, but the VR4 has 5 stud hubs, and i think most of the 1.8's have 4 (and smaller brakes)

That will give you a bigger set of mags to choose from, but if you want it as a VR4, its a dead give away.

My 1.8 GDI was front wheel only, and yeah it was 4 stud. I also notice that both my cars were blessed with clear indicators, whereas your car isn't (change them please please please!!)

I think that in Mitsi speak, a 'viento' is a slow car with a body kit ;) If you look at most viento's, they have the full vr-4 body kit.
