Dunly - yours will be a manual?
check the oil level - maybe manuals could be susceptable to oil levels in the same way as the autos??
also find out what oil was used - when i had my clutch done (and oil changed) it did make a difference, the notchyness going from 2nd to 3rd was gone and has only resurfaced when v. v. cold

The mitsubishi manual gearbox in the galant is known for being notchy, especially when cold. One of the dealer fixes is to use a different grade of oil, but I can't tell you what the standard and modified grades are. Maybe your local dealer could help? (Optimistic, I know!)

It should be a 75w-90 for the manual.

not going into first or second sounds more like clutch adjustment , get that checked as well

I would recommend synthetic or semi minimum.
Sounds like a viscosity problem more than a basestock problem.

ah well thats the problem then he's put mineral oil in it! def not anything to do with clutch, once its ran for a good bit, its pretty smooth. this has only been happening since it went in for its service last week. didnt think it would of been mineral /Hmmm

Oilman, will it be the same grade for the VR-4 manual? I have the same problem... it doesnt feel like it wants to go into gear.

Yes, I have some that will do the trick.
Look at these on my website.
Motul Gear 300 75w-90
Silkolene Syn 5 75w-90
Fuchs Syn Gear 75w-90 (semi)

If their ATF is anything to go by, I'd get the amsoil ;)
Bear in mind though.... I remember Wirdy changed from GL-4 to GL-5 fluid in his gearbox and it was 'too good' for the gears - the GL-5 was so slippery it didn't give the syncros enough bite and he couldn't easily select/engage gears. He ended up draining and refilling with GL-4 after a couple of days.

it got changed the day, so far feels so much better, but the test will be in the morning when its sat overnight cold. quite pricey tho, 15 quid a litre, and just under 3 litres :rolleyes4
