A cow has cost a couple £2,000 in repairs to their caravan after it fell on it.

Derrick and Patricia Cogan had turned up in Devon for a week long holiday in their two-berth caravan when the news was broken to them that a cow had fallen 30 ft onto the side of the mobile home.

The owner of the disused quarry site in Berrynarbor, near Combe Martin, where the caravan was being stored, told the Bristol couple that the inquisitive cow grazed too near the edge of the cliff and fell, landing on its back on top of the caravan.

Mr Cogan, 63, said: 'The site owner said our caravan got hit by a low-flying cow.

'I thought it was a joke but he said it was serious, it was damaged.'

'I just thought it was totally humorous. My wife and I were in hysterics about it,' he added.

The couple chose to holiday in the crumpled caravan, but must now fork out £2,000 to replace the side hit by the cow.

Insurers Caravan Guard said they had never had a stranger claim but would pay out in full.

The cow got away with nothing but a damaged front leg.
