Does anyone know somewhere in Auckland that provides nitrogen for my tyres ?

I have tried quite a few tyre outlets and they have no idea what I'm talking about. There has to be somewhere that has nitro for tyres. :evil2:

Ordinary air is 78% Nitrogen anyway. Isn't that concentrated enough for you?

I think the Firestone place does it on Ti Rakau Drive out east.

Yes I know there are advantages to inflating your tyres with pure Nitrogen, like how some race cars do.

Here's a good article on why you might want to inflate your tyres with pure nitrogen.

Air is 78% nitrogen, but for tyres you need to run 99% nitrogen, (oxygen free). This reduces the overheating in the tyres not to mention they wear better, handle better and do not need to be checked and adjusted as often. In Australia we checked the nitrogen in our tyres once every 3 months and even then they did not need adjusting like air.

Now all that is out of the way, does anyone know where in Auckland I can get it ?

Cool Car East Tamaki can do it, but they have said they will offer this service only to financial members ONLY

The cost will be $10 per tyre +GST

PM me and I can organise both membership and the job.

$10 per tyre + gst is awfully expensive, considering that I got it for $5 per tyre including gst, Firestone Takapuna.

Air is 71% Nitrogen, 18% Oxygen and about 1% CO2, Argon other trace gases etc etc.
( I knew High School Chem and Physics would come in handy one day !! )

I've heard of the nitrogen inflation thing before and for other applications but not sure why it works in this case.

Nitrogen doesn't expand as much as air when heat is added keeping the tyres at a more constant pressure, and I may be wrong but I think that it conducts heat a different way helping to keep tyres cool etc

Spot on dickytim, nitro is great for the tyres. Would never go to air again.

With normal everyday driving do you notice any difference?? :inquisiti
