Ok so the 19th seems to b the go so we got the date sussed now all we need is sum where 2 cruze, like i said earlier i wouldnt mind doing a greater auckland area run finishing at maraetai for a swim(weather/tide permiting) mission bay is a must to go past as well.

We could meet at the museum, then go for a cruise down through mission bay, then on to maraetai?

Xeroid
19-01-2006, 09:30 AM
Should be a starter but only one car, Liz flies out to Shanghai in the morning and I can't drive two cars at once.
(Thinks: now which car ? VR4 or Leggie, flips coin ..........LEGGIE !! )
Not big on the swim myself but I'll bring the camera for sure. Very photogenic area.

Got a start time ?

How about a cruise out to Piha. The Roads are great for the VR-4. Being on them recently.

How about a cruise out to Piha. The Roads are great for the VR-4. Being on them recently.

Thats the best idea iv heard yet, iv driven that road (the back way) a few times now, it might be a bit dodge with a convoy, but its the best fun iv had at low speed. :-policema /yes Big tick for me anyway...

Might be time for some good brake pads tho /Hmmm

So people just say yes to piha, would make a good BBQ/night cruise destination as well... You know you want to. :drummer:

KiwiTT

We should meet somewhere central. Like the GreenLane Supermarket Carpark @ 9:00am and then drive in convoy from there.

Xeroid
22-01-2006, 04:04 AM
Piha is out through Titirangi via the Scenic Drive, got a few nice bends in there and you can go along the northern end of the beach and find an empty parking bay or so to line them all up. Only 2 shops there, one next to the Surf Club and anothre out along the northern end road. Road is tarseal all the way but a bit narrow and bumpy.
Not much facilities there, so if ya want a bbq you'll have to take one with you and any beverages etc, Mission Bay it AIN'T ..... 45 mins drive about from my place ( Mt Albert ) Swimming only for the brave and in patrolled area.

9.00 am start ...? why ...? couple of hours there is long enough unless you like hot sand and surfing.

I have to drop Liz off at airport in the morning, 10.30 flight so have to catch up with ya there. I'd suggest maybe 11.00 am ( some of you might be awake then ) and have a picnic BBQ lunch sort of thingie. Return maybe 3.00 pmish.

I think 9am is too early as well, how about we meet at Greenlane at 11am, everyone knows where that is, then convey out to Piha

dreamer
22-01-2006, 04:54 AM
I agree with the 11am start from Greenlane McDonalds / Foodtown. Then cruise out to Piha.

I used to live in Titirangi, so Piha's my old Local swimming hole. Looking forward to it.

Anyone want to meet out west / north?? i don't really want to drive into town just to turn around again, but it would be cool to join the convoy, and i know the piha roads fairly well. Anyone else want to organise a second stop to collect some of us already out this way?

P.S does anyone have one of those grill cameras, like the footage theyv got in the members section? it would be cool to get some convoy footage (and maybe the piha road at night /Hmmm)

Umm... Kind of, it would be cool to put on my new car, but as i'm still paying it off, and selling my old car /dunce , i can't afford to get it painted etc, so i guess a while longer won't hurt

just bring $20 along, and give it to dickytim, it is well worth it, the information in the members section is great. I promise it is worth it.
You can meet up with us at BP Bombay.

Brad - shall we meet at BP at 10am, cruise down to Gull Botany, meet up with the Howick crew, then follow on to Greenlane? Just an idea.

bradc
24-01-2006, 08:12 AM
probably easier to go straight from bombay to greenlane, I don't see too much point in going to botany as well. It is always fun to arrive in 2 groups anyway. :)

Xeroid

Hey Kenneth, save gas, meet up at Green Lane, Piha is out west, not south, you'd have to turn round and come back.. ( I'm assuming you're on the Shore from your post )

Suggested route:
Meet Green Lane, 10.30 ish on.
Depart 11.00 - 11.15 via motorway taking Northwestern ramp coming off at Pt Chevalier offramp.
Follow Grt North Road to Avondale, past back of Racecourse to Titirangi Road ( crosses Grt Nth Rd at New Lynn ).
Up to Titirangi, take Scenic drive to Piha turnoff, keep going.....

EDIT: If ya need a meeting point for the 'Westie' boys how about on Titirangi Road just past the railway bridge and petrol station at the bottom. Travel time from Green Lane to there, mmmm, .. about 10 -15 mins cos it's all motorway or main road. Ain't too many carparks around there without deviating off somewhere.

Couple of nice Cafe/Restaurants on the way or coming back.

Kenneth
24-01-2006, 08:55 AM
Nah, if I have the cash for gas at the time ill use it. If I wanted to save gas I would have bought a different car :rolleyes4

I believe, the route we will go to Piha, will be

Greenlane -> Motorway -> Western Motorway -> Gt North Road -> Ash Street -> Rata Street -> Titirangi Road -> Piha Road.

If anyone knows a good big carpark on or near that route we can pause at to catch some stragglers or westies, let me know.

ShadyNZer
24-01-2006, 09:06 PM
how far is piha again?

KiwiTT
24-01-2006, 09:10 PM
I think around 20km from Titirangi

mpau009
25-01-2006, 05:35 AM
Maybe you all might want to consider carrying on down the north western to Lincoln road, onto henderson valley, and along Mountain road to the other side of scenic drive???

Would take a bit longer from town, but the road is a whole lot more exciting, more tight stuff, and less public (ie: i saw one car in my last two trips).

I go that way from out west, just for the fun of it, grab a map and tell me what you think. But the route mentioned in the posts above is the normal way everyone else usually gets to piha.

Also you could have a stop in the big warehouse carpark on lincoln road, would be good for me, and people on the shore.

bluey
26-01-2006, 08:19 AM
yeah!!!!!!
come out west............
don't go left at the bottom of the hill,
my car too low and can't make it over the speed bumps!!!!!!
keep going st8 and park on the grass! Past the camping grounds

need a vacant place to stop, Warehouse packed usually - King Dicks is in same complex and well us westies like the odd drink or two hundy.....
old Pak n Save - on Lincoln. Not many cars in there and on the way - and everyone can see!!!!! hehehee

bradc
26-01-2006, 08:45 AM
the Pak n Save on Lincoln road could be a good place to meet, very easy to sell all the cars lined up from the road.

KiwiTT

Can some one update the route from Green Lane.

e.g. greenlane -> motorway -> western motorway -> .... > lincoln Rd

[QUOTE=KiwiTT]Can some one update the route from Green Lane.

e.g. greenlane -> motorway -> western motorway -> .... > lincoln Rd (meet somewhere?? paknsave??)> left, Great North Rd > Right, Henderson Valley Rd > runs into Mountain Rd > Left, Scenic Drive > Right, Piha Rd...

Thats the route i was talking about earlier, feel free to edit.

BTW Someone might want to add some times to leave as well...

mpau009
27-01-2006, 08:49 AM
Yep, just need the people from the south to tell us a time for everyone to gather at paknsave. I would expect you to be there from green lane around 11:30 ifyou leave around 11 *(and obey the speed limits :uhoh: :anxious: ) so should we make it 12 to allow for the stragglers?

If anyone has got a factory airbox and filter they want to get rid of for a reasonable sum could they bring it along, this pod is sucking too much hot air buried back in the engine bay.
Let us know .....
Cheers

bradc
31-01-2006, 08:11 AM
Xeriod, I'll have one in a few weeks once I get my custom airfilter setup, as well as a whole lot of other stock things like intercooler, stock fuel pump, etc. My filter is quite old though, you'd want to change that to the replacement K&N (or other aftermarket) panel filter that fits straight into the cold air box.

Or you could just buy a bonnet like me :D

i3ooyah
31-01-2006, 11:39 AM
you painted that bonnet you brad?

i'll b able to come to one of the meetpoints, got work

bradc
31-01-2006, 07:21 PM
booyah, I'm getting the whole car painted, I should have the ECU in there for the piha meet, and hopefully it will be painted by the dyno day. I might just swap the stock bonnet back on this weekend.

bradc
01-02-2006, 07:36 AM
Tauranga isn't that far away ;) It is always very nice to have members from a long way away turn up, we will have a member from Wellington coming up for one of the meets already, and Pescha might just turn up to both of the meets, she lives in Hamilton.

Were you the guy with the ROH Adrenalin mags that stopped by us on our Tauranga meet?

Xeroid
01-02-2006, 09:18 AM
I'm blatting down to Tauranga for a day ( long day that is ) on 29th March. Doing photo coverage for Tauranga Gravel Rally, hopefully spot 4 stages if logistics are good.
Tank of 98 each way, normally more efficient at speed anyway. Tauranga ain't far, we drove down to the Mt one day from Aucks just for lunch, ......and a couple of wineries along the way.

Covering all the Top Half Events and Taupo Classic as well this year. Maybe a few more, schedule permitting.

Munta
01-02-2006, 07:32 PM
I know that tauranga isnt far from auckland but when you strugle to pay rent every week it does look like a long way away. i use to drive from auckland to tauranga/whakatane and back every weekend in my old car when i use to live in auckland

bradc
01-02-2006, 07:48 PM
Yeah, the fuel price sucks, I spend about $90 or a little bit more every week on BP's finest, it is my single biggest expense.

I think you missed my question Munta, was it you who stopped by us on the Tauranga meet? Does your car have ROH Adrenalin mags?

Munta

You'll stick like glue on the Piha Run. Have you already seen less AYC and ASC kicking in. I did.

dickytim
14-02-2006, 02:20 AM
I haven't got ASC, but the AYC is kicking in less, I haven't really thrown it around yet, I only really drive it to Waiuku and back and they are long curve which I take any where from 120-140 anyway, I did notice the wet weather handling tho ,

bradc
14-02-2006, 07:19 AM
Osiris, why can't you drive, demerit points?

I definately won't be going to the meet in my car, there is too much stuff to be done to my car. I will need to jump in with someone. Dreamer, is it still ok to meet up with you at Bombay and jump in your car?

Yip, you can jump in with me. Although I was looking forward to seeing / hearing your car.

It should only be me and my mate Jono in my car (like last time), My Fiancé says she wants to come, but she doesn't like cars, and gets bored of driving... so most likely she won't come at all (like always).

I gave my car it's valintines, 4 new tyre, of the Goodyear GD3-F1 persuasion and a good clean.
I got those Goodyear GSD3's yesterday, I already had them on the front, but now I have them on the back as well. They are brilliant tyres, and reletivaly cheap too.

I had a scary experience late on Friday Night / Saturday morning, in the rain driving out to Clarks beach, which caused me to check my tyres...
Heres what I found:
8639
8638

Both back tyres were like this. Thanks to the previous Japanesse owner of the car that put the TEIN coilover adjustables on the car, he (or she) liked wheel camber!

I think I best get down to a suspension shop and get them to rectify it.

Handles great now with the new tyres though

dickytim
14-02-2006, 06:51 PM
You are right about them being relativally cheap the closest tyres to these would set you back $300-400 a piece and would only be half as good :)
KiwiTT how many km have you done on yours ???

bradc
14-02-2006, 07:22 PM
If you want to see my car just go to Gary Capper Performance anytime, just say you are with Club VR-4 and you want to see Brads car, they will be more than happy to show you around. They are in Pukekohe very close to the race track.

I think I am going to be very careful monitoring the grip my rear tyres have, they have about 2 degrees of camber on them, I will probably get the swapped across every 5-10000km, depending on their condition.

KiwiTT
14-02-2006, 09:31 PM

About 15,000km and I still have 7mm of tread depth

Xeroid
15-02-2006, 08:19 AM
We do alignment chk and tyre swap every 5,000 on VR4, GSD3's all round. With a full alignment when they and the new wheels were first put on. 20,000 km now and still looking very good, nice and even wear. Pays to get it done right at the beginning to minimise damage and get the life.
Legnum has had full alignment but it's still on the Jap Craps it came with. But still makes it drive heaps better. I'll put GSD3's on it or maybe the new Dunlop Direzza's which look good and at a good price.

bradc
15-02-2006, 09:16 AM
Xeriod, do you mean the Direzza DZ101? Other ones you might want to look into are

toyo proxes t1r - very good best in wet in motor
michelin pilot sport ps2 - very good winner in motor
brdgestone s-03 - not as good as those 2 ^ in motor
ecsta supra 712
Falken GRB FK-451
Dunlop SP Sport 9000
Kumho Ecsta MX (KU15)

Alright, I had organised a passenger, but as they will no longer be able to make it I have room for one!

anyone who cant get there in their own car want a ride? or someone with too many passengers want to share?

you got till sat to tell me, otherwise ill most likely have another passenger organised.

I will also be at the takapuna golf course car-park at 9:30am. will leave at 9:40 to meet dickytim at his place. anyone from the shore who wants to do this tiki-tour also can meet me there.

Xeroid

Done the Toyo's before, OK but wear heavy.
Direzza's were of interest cos they are price competitive with the Eagle F1's and supposedly had a good write up.
The others all have budgetary problems....ie cost way too much !

The F1's are the best we've used so far. But you gotta chk the others out just to be on the safe side. Never hurts to look.

Don't wait up for me. If I can make it I'll get in touch with Bluey :)

Yay Video!

Still haven't seen any of the footage from the last meet that Naused and his mate took :(

Didn't get a chance to clean my car today - it's grubby. I'll try and give it a quick wipe in the morning. I washed and waxed it last weekend for another event, and it's filthy again. /pan The insides the worst. a little dirty around the foot wells from stones and leaves etc.

I like my car to be perfect! :pimp2:

I very much doubt Uc will be there today, me and him went to the whitehouse, spy bar, float, mermaids etc and left there at about 5am. He was rather wasted. I haven't been to sleep yet, but uhhh yeah, see you guys soon ;)

I tried to pay the taxi driver in mermaids money :D

a bit of video wouldn't go amiss ?? :book:
I have set up my PDA on the dash (with Blutack) seems to hold. It does 320x240. However 15 mins is 18 MB

Does it hold well around corners as well, or just going slowly? I'd hate to see it go flying from one side of the car to the other.

18mb for 15 minutes is quite good though, you could probably make quite a few shorter ones if need be.

strange, iv done the same thing with my 5 megpix digital still camera, did a test last night, with the same resolution setting, but 18meg got me three minutes??? I could do better quality, but the time went down. Do you get sound, cause i think that might take up some extra space.

Does anyone know someone with a DV camera? i'm seriously considering buying one

OK !!!! that had to be one of the quicker trips to Piha I've done, especially up hill on the bendy bits, now I KNOW my AYC works.
Downloading pix and editting for size etc, get them up a bit later, I need a beer first !!

I saw you turning into Balmoral rd Xeriod, sometime around 3pm on your way home. You fair flew around that corner. I was in the 626 so you wouldn't have seen me.

It was a good day meeting up with everyone again - and a few for the first time. Pity you guys forgot about the Prelude at the back ;)

I'll have pics up soon - lets not post them in this thread, I'll make a new thread soon.

Have uploaded some of my pics here - http://www.sam.net.nz/gallery/v/cars/clubvr4-19feb2006

Was a good day, good to catch up again, and the drive was a lot of fun (especially that narrow windy bit) :D Was rather funny to be tearing up this road barely wide enough for one car and then come across a 'road narrows' sign /pan

Hey guys.

Thanks alot for another great day of VR-4 heaven.

Both Jono and I enjoyed ourselves, the drive up Henderson Valley Road and down Senic Drive was absolutly fantastic.

It was even better being up front and being able to drive flat tack up the hill, through the corners, and back down the other side again.

Unfortunatly Kenneth had to sit behind me, and was limited to my driving ability / the size of my balls.

Finally got to meet Amber, KB, and the fabulous bluey VR-4. Wicked ride.

Some nice photos taken from the pros (Thanks Xeroid, GroundControl and KiwiTT).

Thanks everyone.

Jono G

P.S Maori_By_Nature... thanks for not stealing my mags :P :2thumbsup

I think it was around 3 - 3:30, not too sure.
Maori_By_Nature, GroundControl and I drove back to the Old Pak N Save in Henderson again and met up with Amber, not long after our arrival, KiwiTT turned up for a few minutes.

You have to be joking.....just a quick blat up the road .....

Made it back to Auckland at approx 5:30am!

And yes it was a quick blat up the road. Myself and PURSPD along with a certain blue Mazda GTX and an old model (E39A) Galant VR4 had some spirited driving ;)

Nice photos!

And yes, I wouldn't have minded being the only Super VR4 there :( Maybe next time :(

Yep, cool drive!
Don't worry, even if I was in front I wouldn't have gone much, if at all faster as I didn't know the roads. :2thumbsup

Cheers to all those that turned up!

It was a great meet. I always like a cruise tied into it. My brother enjoyed it too. He said "Its good you know the limits of your car"
