As some of you may know, my VR-4 has been with the dealer I purchased it from INSERT INTO post VALUES (2 weeks today since I dropped it back) to sort out a gearbox oil leak.

After several days they reckoned it was the torque converter seal. Tuesday this week the wife rang them to be told they were doing their best to finish it for this weekend.

She called them again today to be told they had finished the job, put the box back in and discovered it was still leaking !

To say I am not amused is a major understatement INSERT INTO post VALUES (but we want to keep the forums clean) !

Does this sound a likely story to you guys or is there something they are not telling me ?

They are Ralliart dealers and they always have VR-4's for sale and they seem to know what they are talking about - actually have the foreman personally working on my car now !

lol, mmmmkay... right i cant remember who it was that mentioned this, but, the someone said go to the guys at eccles they know what they are talking about. they are ralliart dealers..so.. mmmkay i went off to them with my problem...
they turned round and said, i cant see anythign wrongwith your car, the guy that drove my car asked me ifthis was a vr4.. alarm bells hsould have rung at that time!!!

anyways, they sent me home saying there was nothing wrong with my car... 2weeks lateri take my car to my dealer down in newbury, and they turn around and say its the diff.. so im sorry, not all "ralliart dealerships" know what they are talking about when it comes to our loved vr4

I know what your saying mate, and you could be right. I suppose it is easy to give the impression you know what you are doing even if you don't sometimes.

My problem is they are 210 miles from where I live so I can't just nip down there to have a look :INSERT INTO post VALUES (

I feel for you as well buddy. Can't imagine what I will feel like in another 2 weeks if mine is not back, so I have a way to go to catch you up. I could be divorced by then though as the wife is really missing the VR-4 as she drives it during the week and she is stuck with a crappy loan car.

I had the torque converter seal replaced on my car. As far as I'm aware, the job is a specialist one and can't be done by the regular dealer, even a Ralliart one, so they have to send the box off to a specialist autobox repairer. That could be where the delay lies ....

I guess maybe I was lucky. Put the car in on a Monday and had it back by the Friday of the same week. :)

I noticed I had a gearbox oil leak just after I got my car. Decided I couldn't afford to be constantly buying the expensive smelly stuff it needs, so booked it in with the garage... www.the-garage.co.uk lol strangely enough. He's near Glasgow by the way, so not really handy for you southerners.

Anyway, after much struggling with the 5 ton gearbox, it was decided that it would be easier to take the engine out to re-fit the gearbox, then replace as a whole unit.

Marc at the Garage is not a Mitsi dealer, but he has been working on MANY Jap performance motors for a few years now, and he doesn't charge dealer rates, which is nice :)

It's just a bit of a pain that you need to do all that to replace a £10 oil seal

Wife spoke to the garage again today - they now say they are waiting for more seals to come in and are hoping to finish the job and get the car back to us early next week. The foreman has refused to take on any more personal work himself until mine is sorted :D

Lets hope we are getting somewhere this time !
