I either give them to mates if they need them or sell them on ebay, makes a few extra quid.

Yep, it's a sim card, not much not to work on them. That's it, just pop it in, chuck some money on voila, new number, nothing else to it, no contract or anything. Each pack comes with it's number on the back, choose the one you like and give/sell the rest.
