So there I was phoning around import places trying to source our next VR-4..... when it suddenly came to me that maybe the insurance would be more on a saloon.

So I jump on the phone to Elephant and ask...... after a long phone call with them it turns out that they have only one
VR-4 import listed, and that does not say if its and estate or a saloon.

So I am winner as if I buy a newer car I just pay slightly more as its a newer car, In fact its a big old break the bank £14 a year extra !

Just thought it was a bit weird.
I will never understand insurance compaines.

You totally sure your insurance company understood what your car was?
We phoned several places and quite few times they didn't know what a Galant VR-4 was before being adamant that a VR-4 is an import only.. not that it matters as there is no difference in price between official and import anyway.
I would guess if you are paying less than £600 minimum your aren't insured correctly.

£534 :D + £35 for Europe-wide breakdown cover from The Policy Shop (http://www.policyshop-insurance.co.uk/cgi-bin/PolicyShop.storefront) who specialise in Japanese imports. They DO know what a VR-4 is! :)

Mine cost £635 and its definitely for a VR4
From the official insurance people on the MLR;)

I had this issue a while back
Insurance company Phone Direct hadn't a clue what a VR4 was and quoted me for a Galant V6 estate the twats
They had to admit it was there fault and paid the difference
Did send me a letter saying I couldn't renew though

I believe my dad tried them and they quoted well over the top! cheapest we could find was Adrian Flux who didn't require a Tracking device and the premium didn't rise when they heard the words: alloys, exhaust, induction kit.

I think insurance companies just pull a figure out from thin air and see if they can make you choke.
