The IAT sensor measures the temperature of the intake nmanifold

Is this a genuine chip, or a replacement resistor for the MAF (mass air flow) meter? I know a lot of people on online auctions are flogging 3cent resistors for big money, often just packaged inside a professional looking box. If its one of those, id be seriously careful, as they alter the signals the computer recieves to fool it into adjusting the air fuel mixture, which can cause detonation. :evil2: :sick2: If it is a genuine thing, then i would guess* that its probably the sensor that sits in the box behind the air filter, or somewhere on that system. But iv never installed anything like that, and have been warned against low tech mods.

Might be somewhere to start anyway... or give a mitsi parts dealer a ring, If it works let us know:

or resistor

Yeah, it looks like a fairly similar thing, it could well be fine, given its only a small increase, but it would pay to monitor the Air fuel ratios incase it gets a bit lean. I'm fairly sure its a replacement for the AFM's main sensor (basically a resistor suspended in the airflow), which is the square black box just behind the airbox (or where the pod would sit if youv changed it).

Frankly tho, iv bought a similar thing in NZ, and when i found out the potential damage they could do, if it goes wrong, i decided to bin it after all its only 5 bucks, and an engine rebuild would suck... better mod to do for cheap power would be a manual boost controller, but they have risks as well.

or resistor

Don't install it - it's just a resistor. They usually clamp the inlet temp sensor signal as has already been said, and most make the car think it's getting very cold air coming in, which in turn makes the ECU enrich the fuel mixture - it'll make your MPG drop and can cause bore-wash problems.
