My V6 was makin a terrible droning type noise from the front left which gets worse as i steer to the right so i had the wheel bearing/hub replaced. Got it back and it STILL had the same noise. Garage reckoned it may be a transmission or gearbox problem requiring the 'box to be stripped. Any thoughts or anything else it may be as i'm totally clueless when it comes to cars!!! /help

i would have said its the hub aswell - take it it only happens when you steer one way? (to the right?) -

Yep, only happens when i steer to the right, same tone of noise etc. regardless of whether im in 3rd,4th,5th or freewheeling.

Uh Oh !/help

This don't sound good as tha is what has been happening to mine for a while now and i have a bearing ready to replace. Could be CV Joint  If you pack it with grease and it quietens then that'll be it. ! Cheapest option to find out if it is i think ..

Guys - -Just a word to the wise (from my own painful experience)..... Had a similar sound from the front left of my car. Took it back to Mitsubishi who gladly told me £183 + fitting for new hub assembly..... Made no difference what so ever. Turned out that the tyres (although only had 10k on them) were shot. Had I have put the spare on first, I may have saved a few quid by noticcing a reducing in the noise. May not help, but may be worth a try... On mine, the tires looked fine, but abnormal wear had caused bad road noise round corners...

HAve you sat in the pasenger seat and to see if it still comes from the left wheel? Mine's been doing what I thought yours was, but when I missus dropped me down the town the other day the noise sounds like it's coming from the right, suggesting it's not related to road wheels at all.

Il give that a try as well, is it a good idea letting the missus drive my car though?!?!/help

Is it just droning? no vibrating? - a nearly screwed driveshaft causes loads of odd shudders..
