I have just bought a set of 17" Enkei wheels (ex EVO).

Just looking for opinions on tyre manufacturer and size.

Would like a tyre with minimum road noise but good performance probably won't be used on track, at least not too seriously.

Size 225/45 x 17 or 235/45 x 17

I'd go for the 225, with less rubber on the road, you'll get less noise...

But make sure you search for prices of those different sizes... there is often a big difference in price between two different sizes of the same tyre.

If they are 8" mags then I would go with 235/45/17, if they are 7.5" then I would go with 225 tyres.

To find out if it is 8" or 7.5", look on the inside if the rim, for a numer next to the letter "J".

Assuming they are the 6 spoke Evo 8 Enkies, I am 90% sure they are 8" wide. Go for 235 rubber.

How much do you want to spend? The more expensive you get the more you will be able to dictate your requirements.

Yep 6 spoke Enkei,s so looks like 8" then, will check when they arrive. Budget not a problem but don't need to go over the top as it will be used mainly for squirting around local A and B roads rather than tracks.

Well, 47% of members who voted here http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14143&highlight=tyre have Goodyear Eagle F1's...........can't beat a good recommendation:2thumbsup

I would also go for 235s on 8inch rims...

The difference in stability was noticeable to a mate of mine who has loaned my car a few times.. and I did not mention the change to him...

It seems to make a positive difference esp on cornering..

Just a side note bro...
If you ever want to lower your car with evo offset wheels, 235's will defo catch.
I found this out the hard way and had to resort to 225/45's/pan I have previously fitted a set of evo7 alloys with 235's and IMHO they looked just a tad too wide for the arches. My concern was confirmed when I experimented by fitting a Bilstein damper and spring kit , after a few miles back from Tescos the inner lip of my rear arches found an appitite for my nice new tyres/Grrr

NZ members have found this also, but it was solved by rolling the gaurd lip.

.. rolling the guard lip. ... Explain

Kenneth

... Explain

see the crude drawing... should explain it. Guard on the left will foul with the wheel, the one on the right will not

You can acutally flare the guards out too, but i suspect its a little more work and would be harder to get right

Don't want to get into body mods for the sake of slight difference in tyre sizes. I've been through this scenario before with a lowered MKII Golf with fat wheels - stopped the top of the arch fouling then the front fouled........ took an angle grinder to it in the end and I'm not doing that to the VR4.

Cheers Guys

I am running 235/45 17's on Evo rims. I have had one suspected rub with a bad piece of road and five adults in the car, but apart from that no issues at all in nearly 7000 miles. I am running standard suspension though.

MPBVr4
24-02-2006, 11:08 AM
In which case I'll probably get away with 235's as suspension is standard
and max of 4 people. Only wanted EVO wheel's so I can upgrade the brakes when I can get hold of some Brembos.

Thats what we're here for :2thumbsup

Bear in mind you need to add fitting, balancing etc onto the mytyres prices when you take them to a local tyre place - mind you should only add about £5 per tyre to the price..........so you should still save at least £70+ on local prices for a set of 4 :pimp2:

My stepdad/boss feels the same way. 10 years on his own, and he still has a panic attack if we are a few booking short one monday.

He thinks i'm horizontal i'm so laid back, if we could both meet someway in the middle we'd prolly get along a bit better.
