I'm getting some of the Amsoil wonder fluid tomorrow that I've heard so much about just thought I'd post my shopping list to make sure it meets approval and that I've got the right stuff:

1x 5l - TSO 0W30 Series 2000 - £52.50
2x 5l - ATF Fully Synthetic Universal Automatic Transmision Fluid - £96.50
1x 473ml - API Amsoil PI Petrol Additive - £8.49
1x 480ml - AEF Crankcase Cleaner and Engine Flush - £6.99

Total including club discount = £148.03 delivered.

Sound ok?

Gonna get a couple of test kits, one to see what the oil from mitsubishi is like and then one for after the amsoil has had it's run, to compare the two.

I've just about got my head around doing the engine and gearbox, don't have clue about how to do the diffs.

It's easy...

...when you watch someone else do it

:) I might do actually, well when Gary gets back off holiday he's taking me to a ralliart mechanic near him that he knows, gonna get him to do the oil change and have a little tweak and give it a once over for me, I'll ask him then. Also gonna get him to install the dump valve for me, Gary had a go but when the original one was put on the guy at mitsubishi must have thought, "right, how can we make this as difficult as possible to remove, hmm...." buggers!

I actually found my dump valve really easy to remove. Yours must have been played with already, or something has gone corroded.

I think once you've done it or seen it done, you'll be much more confident next time. The oil is dead easy, AYC is the pig, but with the right tool it can be done in no time.

I was Lucky in that Nick and Kieran were up for helping, not sure i'd of tackled it myself otherwise.

Bets of luck, enjoy it once the Amsoil is in too!

I look forward to the Amsoil, should be nice and smooth. It was just the way all the clips were arranged, hidden behind right next to a boiling hot pipe! Plus theres the engine cover which doesn't help, I'll get it up on the ramp and rip that straight off. :)

I think the only thing I don't like about doing it myself is the bit of jacking it up on four axle stands, not too sure about that.

Cheers.

Mine doesn't have an engine cover, and had been standing all day when I looked at my DV, some of the clips are a pain, which would be made worse by lack of access.

On axel stands it should be safe as houses, your not doing it on a hill are you?

Nah, I suppose it's just a case of how safe I feel when I suspend a ton and a half lump a foot off the ground and then stick my head underneath it :)

Garages aren't that much safer mate. Did you see pics of the X5 after it had fallen from the ramps at a garage posted on here a few weeks ago?

I can't find the thread otherwise i'd link to it for you.

Bloody 'ell, in the first pic you can see the reflection of someone standing there in a shirt and tie with a clip board in hand! You know someone was kindly asked to leave that day! Cheers Nick.
