Hi, just noticed a rather nasty crack in the top of my radiator. I've managed to get another one, and the job itself looks relatively easy. Is this the case or am I heading into a bitch of a job territory?

Easy peasy Job.. 4 12mm bolts on top, on set of flyers to remove the clips from the two pipes, remove the electrics that plug into the hedgehog, and off you go..

barry is this why you couldn't get that clip on to the power steering pump.

your using flyers not plyers..

I need to thank you for supplying me with one. My local dealer quoted me a two week wait and a horrific price for a replacement.

Cheers.

i take it that bleeding it is simply the act of leaving the filler cap off with the engine running?

you dont need to bleed it.. just take the two pipes off from the engine, some water will spit out of the engine, but you can get away with removing the radiator with all of the water in it... you only need to refill the amount that came out of the engine..

dont leave engine running, and let it drain..

Yes - I would recommend bleeding it if I were you. As you say, just leave the filler cap off and let the air 'burp' out of the top. You can squeeze the top radiator hose to help this process. When you squeeze the pipe, let it go slowly and keep adding water into the top as you let go - this will ensure that the air you've just squeezed out is replaced with water and that it doesn't just suck the air back in.

The fact that they have a remote expansion tank and a pressure cap does mean they're self-bleeding to some degree, but it's good practice to let it bleed a bit before you seal it up.

Just to add a small footnote, when you are bleeding your cooling system with the engine running, leave the heater setting on max warm, this will help stop any airlocks occuring:happy:

Gonads!, I take it that will be ATF fluid that's comming out of those pipes which will need to be topped up upon replacement?

I must have missed that bit in this thread as I had a brown trouser moment upon spying the red stuff on the floor!.
