View Full Version : Boost all wrong....

After taking my engine out the other week, and being cocky, I didn't label my pipes coming off my Boost controller "ill be fine, ive done this tonnes of times now".....

anyways, since then I had loads of problems, pipes popping off, boost alarming at 1.2 bar, engine cutting out and spluttering.. at one stage I was at 1.4 bar, as the controller remembers your last highest alarm level, eeek - engine could have blown..

Anyways, after a visit to Super Mo's last night we compared how my pipes were compared to a bog standard VR4. The results were rather alarming, not only did I manage to get my main controller pipes on the wrong way, all the other pipes, which shouldn't have been changed, removing. were all back to front, going to wrong solenoids.. twas a mess..

after some comparisons we got mine back to normal, and then added the controller pipes into the equation..

ah, back to normal..

This weekend, im going to take pictures, and label all the pipes, as this isn't the first time ive been in this position :)

1 - Engine blow - need replacing
2 - Insert new clutch
3 - inspect new clutch

to come
4 - replace clutch

This one was handy with my controller install (if only it was that simple in real life/pan ), maybe you could move it somwhere more useful.

Yep.. my old vr4.

Conaboy runs it 1.0bar low/1.2 high and 1.4 scramble.

Now ive told him plenty.... i wouldnt go more than 0.85.

However, the cars been fine... no fuel cut or det... yet!

he may even post for a change to confirm.

EDIT: Got the numbers wrong.

Ha ha, for a change. Prefer to lurk /pan

Currently 0.7 low/1.05 high and 1.2 bar scramble boost.

To be honest it runs at 1.05 bar 99.9% of the time apart from the odd occasion I "try" to save fuel and turn it off. Doesn't work so it goes back on 5 minutes later!

It has been 100% reliable and I have covered a lot of mileage in it.

I actually turned it up after trawling threads on this forum and reading about memebers who reliably run more than this.

Well... almost right.

When i got the car... it was set to 1.4 bar normal remember.

Maybe someones done something... we'll never know.

Yep..... I remember.

Tried the scramble at 1.4 bar and it went like a rocket! Worried it would do damage tho so turned it back down.

Cheers for the advice on the MAF screw, can't beat free power. Definite improvement in the top end power delivery.
