I think the general consensus is that im gonna go for it myself.. the engine is in, and cambelts on.. INSERT INTO post VALUES (but need expert to double check that) once checked by a mate of mine, and received some advice, im just gonna put it all back together, and fire her up.. is she blows, she blows.. if she works, then happy joy, ive saved my self a fortune.. but as i said, if it goes.. then.. ack... what the hell.. been off the road for god knows how many months.. might aswell be off for a few more....

What a story!

Good to see you've got her back OK:)

I can't believe they just downed tools and left like that!

I think Mo needs an award for 'Services rendered to the club':D - As Pete's said, that went above and beyond!!

Ive been speaking to a mate of mine - hes gonna come round on sat to have a look, and give me a good idea of t where we are up to at this moment in time.

depending on the out come of that, will determine when the engine will be kicked into life, and when.. and hopefully it wont blow up :Eek1:

Have faith young padawan,,,,,,,,if it ain't ready to run, we won't be firing her up.

By the sounds of it, we'll get her running no probs, and then just get the heatshields back on before taking it out in anger.

After having my motor blow up on the M56 in the past, it's not an experience i'd like to see happen to yours, even though you are scottish :)

see you on sat, you big girls blouse.

Barry, I'm still in shock mate

If you need any reference photo's while you're working on it I'll be here with camera at the ready.

No doubt the scumbags would have taken anything of value with them when they scarpered ;)

Good luck.

i noticed already that the cam belt isnt on right.. well. the dots arnt lined up:eek: but im sure its gonna be a piece of piss to sort..

G, thanks for offering to help out - much appreciated!..

I may need that.. ive already got most of it back together.. just put he back turbo on, but theres no gasket, which is the reason the rest isnt on.. INSERT INTO post VALUES (im assuming) so for now, in an attempt to get her running im using some of that quick gasket gunk.. will order proper one tomorrow..

as i said, turbo is on got most of the top bit on now.. ive also got a few pipes on..

im missing one bolt already... which is a bit of a pain but if I have to, the other three should be fine untill i can get a hold of one.... but you never know once the rest is "in-place" i might find it..

maybe, just maybe with a bit of luck, and crossed fingers - she might be able to limp down to pod....

ok time for some beer, and watch the footy

I'm just pleased to see you got you car back in one [ or several !! ] piece Barry. I've no doubt you will get it to santa pod, but if you do need any help, & I think I speak for all of us, just shout !!

thanks for the moral support! its appreciated.. its a bit daunting really.. having never really done anything to my car - engine wise... but.. ive got alot of confidence this will pull through..

the only reason it would not.. is if VBJ's didnt do something right with the inside of the engine.. but im not going to take the engine apart to find that out..

/crosses fingers for saturday aka "D-day"

Again, if u need a hand gimme a shout !

Building an engine is pretty easy stuff [as you're no doubt finding out right now] it's a bit like a big jigsaw; the only real difficult stuff is the actual wiring, but I cant see how that would upset you since you're not trying to change anything so everything should plug back in !

I for one would support a specialist in VR4s, altho more from a moral point of view since I could take mine anywhere really - I'd just rather have someone I can trust working on it !

BraindG
01-10-2003, 10:08 PM
i would aswell.. if there was a specialist - id prefer to take it there..

but, my engine itself isnt actually in bits.. its all the bits hanging off it im referring to.. the rear turbo.. which is now on.. the whole induction kit, those pipes.. the top part of the engine.. and most of the belts on the left of the engine..

so, dont think im sitting here with a top end, tappets, pistons and a sump trying to put it all back together :)

that just means your puzzle is even easier - go you !

Great to see things arn't as bad as they first seemed mate. As others have said, if I can help just call me, even if it's just someone to sound off at mate !

Good luck for the weekend and would be a miracle and great if you can get her to Pod mate

I agree with Interlec. Also, it's not just VR-4s that need looking after.... My GLS gets some curious looks - The 8G Galant just isn't known to many outside Mitsubishi. I for one would gladly take my car to Barry and Mo's garage;); as I know a good job would be done... But at the moment, I only feel really confident taking it to the local dealer.

Most people arn't even confident about that Kieran !

I'm confident with my dealer doing my servicing etc

One of my mates has a Evo 6 and drives to Extreme in Dudley just to get it serviced

I think he's mad driving 200 miles there and back for a service plus the time wasted waiting for it

As I have pointed out before my dealer is a Subaru / Mits dealer and so can deal with High Performance cars

landy
02-10-2003, 09:26 PM
My Mitsy dealer is less than a mile from where I live, and I'm very confident for them to service it INSERT INTO post VALUES (they drool over the car as much as me :D :D )

But they only have one bloke who knows all about Ralliart and performance upgrades etc. and he isn't there every day, but if Barry and Mo set up a garage for this I would be very tempted to book my car in :cool1:

couple of thoughts regarding VBJ ?? can I take it the owners did a runner ?? what about the people who actually did / do the work on the cars ?? have they been left high & dry also ?? skilled VR4 mechanics left without employment ?? or are they in the same mould as the afore-mentioned owners ??

BraindG
