richy rich
05-03-2006, 01:20 PM
d by the looks of them you need to jack back up remove wheal

then use a spanner/ stillsons (not a good idea as it will damage them)
on the top nut and wind them up
this is only an educated guess

SGHOM
05-03-2006, 02:34 PM
They can be adjusted in situ.
removed wheel, & bottom 17mm bolt. On the top chrome locking nut, there's an allen key. loosen that, & the whole shocker can be wound down.

I've done both sides..down to max/min ?? & it still looks too low ? /help

Is it the spring rate ? Are they to soft.. Can you use different springs.. Originals or summat else you got lying around ??

Derek - I've just had a thought, thinking back to when we did the suspension on Hordak....

I notice in another thread you said you've only done the rears... That might be the problem. You see, when we did my V6, we did the fronts first. and when we'd done them, it sat about an inch lower than it should have - What was happening was that the standard rears were 'pushing' up the back of the car and tilting the front further down.

As soon as we changed the rears, the nose of the car lifted again - which was good because we could then get the jack out!:inquisiti

Derek,

Have they got a seperate height and pre-load adjustment? It looks to me like you are winding up the pre-load and not the height.

Derek,

Have they got a seperate height and pre-load adjustment? It looks to me like you are winding up the pre-load and not the height.

My thoughts exactly. There should be appreciable clearance increase if you've used the full length of the height adjustment.

Usually the adjusted range is slightly larger for the front compared to the rear. For example - the Tein HA adjustment range is - 70mm front and 45mm rear.

If yours are in the same order of adjustment range, you should see at least 40mm change in height.

If you have another adjusting ring below the two at the base of the spring then that's the one to adjust the height with. If there isn't any other adjusting rings below the two at the base of the spring then height is adjusted by changing the spring preload (ie squeezing the spring). Pretty sure that's the way of it...... best check with Mo I reckon.

Hope that helps

Hi,
You should be adjusting the whole bottom part of the shock (the part with the 17mm hole that bolts at the bottom), and the locking ring.
see here they should be the same as the D2

good luck

weather permitting...... they will be fitted tomorrow night.
Still not got a 'key' to pre-tension the springs, & I suppose it's a bit of guesswork at 1st , setting the ride height etc. /help
If it goes pear shaped I'll try kicking 'em............ usually works !! :inquisiti /Grrr

yep Rich.. :2thumbsup sort of ??

I changed it this morning, & now I've the correct......... err........ slightly better ride height. :inquisiti

I still think the spring rate is too harsh, but It's a bit of guess work to get it right.

Has anyone got any measurements of the best distance from the top to the bottom of the spring ?? I know D2's or Daiyama's may be different ?? :book:

Hi Derek,
My D2 settings are on the link below, hope all works out, If the suspension is set up too harsh the car will skip over bumps on corners (causing you to loose contact with the tarmac), good luck.

what about ride hight

ride height is slightly lower now I've 'released' the spring tension. I'll take a look in the morning when the ride has settled down. may need to lift it another 5mm or so.

no pics as yet Rich, but on my 'enforced' day off today, /Grrr /pan I managed to raise the rear suspension to a more user friendly height. It may have to be adjusted again when I get the fronts done... hopefully this coming W/E.

I also changed the oil & flushed engine. [ Mobil 1 ] sorry amsoil, will order yours when I've time.

And.... I also put my old exhaust back on, so now I should be below 98db, ready for the ring !! :2thumbsup

A big thanx to Chris [ Millhouses motor company ] for the use of his excellent facilities whilst he wasn't looking !!
