The same thing happened in the States in an HGV a few years ago.. The bloke got locked up when it was found out that he was Full OF **** /pan

Have turned the key off myself and it works great until you hear this little 'click' and the steering locks! Thats also scary.

Ive drove my vr4 at speed with no power steering and it is fine its only a prob at slow speeds.

yes he would of lost his power assisted brakes but they had gone any how.

I'll stay out with the jury on this one, I cannot see how anyone twa* or not could drive at that speed towards stationary cars at a roundabout and finally crash after trying to avoid everything without trying to use the brakes. I'll still take some convincing though.

I may be wroung but if you turned ingnition off and left in gear you still have every thing working??

I have had an thottle tick 3/4 open turned off to position 1 and car stops
watched the interview he was told you did the right thing.Well the police arnt going to say "you a Pr**k sir try turning car off"
he did try holding car back on brakes but they melted.No doubt BMW will get stuck in to as well as the police

anyone think it was suss that not only did it go to full thottle that he also could not get it out of gear ??

This looks like a fantasy to me. If you hit the brakes hard enough the engine will stall, wont get out of gear? can't turn engine off?, hasn't got an alarm/ immobiliser on his keyfob? too many coincidences, went on for too long.
A sudden burst of acceleration in a city or country road, as in the Ford cruise control scandal (remember Ford? they're the ones that did the math and sent the memo round, Cheaper to settle with the relatives than recall the car) can send you in to the rough before you can react but as one of the people it happened to said, he just turned it off and coasted to a halt.

the BMW badges can be misleading. My friend has a 316Ci but its a 2.0 with over 160Bhp in it!

as for the incident, guy seems a bit of an idiot! could have killed someone, including himself!

the old E36 BMW 318i would only have about 120bhp but would have a better power to weight ratio than newer ones, with all the metal lost to rust

must have really been flat out to get to those kind of speeds.....
