Hi Guys,

As you may be aware, I take delivery of my Evo IX this week... CAN'T WAIT!!

I'm not leaving the club because what makes the club is the people, so I thought a couple of things:

Would CVR4 be interested in expanding into the Evo market?

There is a Galant/Evo crossover, and even in the history of the Evo it clearly states it was based on the VR4 rally car...

If not....

Would CVR4 be interested in closer integration with Lancer Register?

Not sure how though...

I won't be leaving CVR4 for MLR in a hurry but they have some great group buys there and some good articles too..... They could tag onto the back of ours too..

Maybe a meeting between our commitee and their's to look for some opportunities????

Just a thought...

... a little of topic...

there is now www.VR4club.ru, so might be a good idea to make a VR4 web ring of some sort... ;)

I like that idea! Maybe then, if we do pull together, we could approach Club R-134a and maybe we'd get a response from them?

:soapbox: Barry!!

We have done a couple of trackdays with the MLR by invite (good bunch to track/socialise with :2thumbsup ) and they are always glad to invite/see CVR4 members on track as they often struggle with numbers despite the size of their membership.

Don't see how a tie-up will benefit them, but nothing ventured .......

I must admit, there would probably be more in it for us, as they're the more established club and have more financial muscle and better contacts.

That said, on group buys, trackdays and such, a closer tie could be mutually beneficial.

How about group buys??

Tyres, fuel pumps, insurance, the list is endless... I just think we should try and use their muscle to better our club, and if we get a few members to both, then great!!!

We are all fast mitsubishi owners, and I for one buy all the mags that says 820BHP ND Evo and really enjoy FTO/GTO articles...

I really think that a closer integration of mitsubishi clubs (not just MLR) would be mutually beneficial, maybe we could all group together and create a bit more interest from insurance companies, tuners etc etc etc....

Come on commitee.... let's do it!!! what is there to loose?

"Webrings" a possibility.. closer integration with Evo clubs, im not getting, what do we get from it? and if theres something we can get from it, what do we give in return, i doubt a relationship such as that would allow us to join forces, and take all their contacts, and resources.

Group Buys, perhaps we can just build a relationship whereby if we have one, we post on their site, if they have one, they post here.. how many group buys have we, as cvr4 done, and successfully completed - only cvr4 members or other members (mlr for example) ? how many have any of us joined in on a MLR group buy?

tis open for debate..

I would suggest keeping the club to just 8G Galants and Legnums to be honest. Apart from group buys I can't really see the benefit and with group buys a much more useful idea i think would be to generate some sort of common parts list in the members area so everyone would know which parts are common between the differing Mitsu models. Speaking for myself for example I have no idea which parts off an Evo or GTO or anything else for that matter are suitable for use on the 8G Galant or its derivatives.

Once a list like that existed we would all know which group buys to be interested in.

Group buys are always destined to fail within CVR4 purely because of the lack of numbers. We don't have the membership that the MLR does, and we'll never get it either, simply not enough cars. Also, there aren't enough aftermarket modifications specifically for the VR4 to warranty many group buys. Group buys that would be beneficial, such as alloys, electronics and such are carried out on the MLR anyway, so why not just join in theirs.

I like this club partly because of it's size. I imagine at most events this year i'll get to meet almost all of the UK people that post on here. That can't be said for bigger clubs.

Webring yes, but closer integration is alot of hard work for minimal gains IMO, so no to that one.

AYe, im not even considering expanding CVR4 to incorperate other cars by default.

Group buys - possibility,
other galant/legnum site webrings - aye.

"Expansion of CVR4"

We are expanding. At a fair pace. We sometimes struggle to keep up with the expansion! In my opinion we are constantly moving upwards and trying our best to control it. To coin a phrase - What goes up slowly will come down slowly. Lets have a long living and stable club rather than a short burst of unnattainable stardom!

I too agree that the size of CVR4 is partly what makes it special. The club normally has a good family atmosphere - fighting is a rare occurrence and most of us don't like it when it happens. Would we lose that if we got many more members in a short period?

Totally agree. Never been part of an Owners Club before but have visited a few recently just to see how they work, and some leave a lot to be desired to say the least.

I enjoy the rarity of the car and the small, family atmosphere that this brings to the club. I also find that the car brings a more mature minded owner than a lot of the other car forums.

I say, "if it aint broke, dont fix it". :2thumbsup

8G only? Why?

the 6G is still a galant VR4 and it has an Evo engine...

the 7G is a smaller version of the GTO 3ltr engine and is still a Galant VR4..

the 8G is a larger and turbo'd version of the FTO GR

There is alot of crossover that not alot of people (but us) know about...

I wasn't suggesting that we add extra forums, or that we try and 'expand the forum' to cater for them..

When I say 'Expansion of CVR4' I mean it's horizons, there are alot of common interests, parts etc etc, you could piggy back this and make it more lucrative for members to become members...

Just putting down my thoughts, if the commitee chooses not to, that's fine, but I can't be accused of not being enthusiastic about the club, marque or trying to better things for the members of this club (not that you were suggesting I don't.. just a figure of speech)

Long Live CVR4... That's what I say...

Comes down to how far do you want to take it Mike, and the extra work involved, remember Barry does this of his own back. I think the thought behind your idea is a good one, and in a perfect world it would work. But there are already loads of forums for EVO's and plenty for FTO's i'm sure, the other G's are welcome here, but bear in mind there is alot of competition out there.

I know i'd rather pay membership to a specialist club than a jack of all trades club.

Nice to know your still around now you've got a thrash happy EVO anyways

Hmmm. I must admit, having seen the points of view put forward, I'm now not sure that expansion of the club would be such a good thing. That's not to say I'm against it. Invites onto group buys, and being included in a webring would be great, but anything further and I do agree that we risk diluting the unique atmosphere that is the best part of this club.:iloveyou:

....But I still would love it if we got some recognition as a club from the Japanese Galant/Legnum owner's club.... That would be brilliant!!:2thumbsup

The members have spoken...

On to the next idea then... But I will warn you, good things NEVER stay small, whether they want to or not...... They're always in demand and as such grow....

Kind of dictated by the amount of VR4's in the country though Micheali, and as we know, the government aren't exactly helping our cause /pan

But we are growing Mike. What we must be careful of that that we don't grow too quickly. As an example, merchandising, setting up the committee and membership payments has been a difficult task - they've all needed time and thought to make them work. And they've not been without their problems. At the end of the day, the club can only grow with the continued participation of it's members - and we all have our lives outside of the Club. If we grew too fast, people would be overloaded with work to do and would soon jack it in!

And at the moment, I think we've enjoyed a swell of members, and that's allowed us to explore new features - Calendars, the Gazebo, etc.etc. I think it's right that we 'level off' for a bit and allow these things to get firmly established.

As a Club, the car we are based around dictates that our club will remain small against the likes of the MLR and Scoobynet, etc. But that's what makes it special.

Think of it this way. Ford chuck out thousands of cars each day. Porsche/Bentley/Rolls Royce etc. don't.... And, admittedly, they have to be careful to keep themselves in the black. But which would you sooner drive?:scholar:

As Barry and Pete has said many times, and endorsed by many others. This club is primarily for people who have an interest in the 8G VR-4. Your interest here Michaeli, now resides with wonderful people here who are like a family to you and are friends. We care for all of us. Should we expand too much we may lose this feeling and it is not something any of us want.

Good luck with your EVO IX. We look forward to hearing your exploits and experiences in this awesome Mitsubishi.

As you may know I also have another car on my radar (The Concept X). I will probably upgrade from the VR-4 to this car in a few years time, if I can no longer afford the repair bills or they are not justified (i.e. over $5,000+). I will however still remain a member of this club, because of the members of this Club.
