All in favour vote Yes

I have to recommend this to anyone, I've been to 3 now and have thoroughly enjoyed them all, best of all you can't argue about driver differances or anything like that when you are comparing 1/4 mile times.

Oh hell yes. I've been interested to see what kind of output I've got before I start tampering with my car.

Can this rolling road measure things like boost pressure and AFRs as it's running?

yes if its not to expensive

Paul - check that they can cope with auto transmissions. I contacted a few rolling roads last year to try and set this up, but they didn't like the 4WD and auto box combo.

I'm up for it if it works out!

I Got a call this morning and the chap (cant remember his name /pan ) and first thing he's said is-
sorted out your boost leak yet?

Kieran i hope this answers your question :2thumbsup
its all about numbers as follows

30 cars= 30 quid
20-25 cars= 40 quid
under 20 cars= BIG MONEY

Come on lets get a show of hands on this event, maybe someone can contact a mag and we can get some GOOD publicity for clubvr4 and maybe then tuners may start to become intrested in sourcing/providing parts for our cars.Come on lets make a BIG noise about CLUBVR4. Dates would be may or june on a saturday, pls post preference

Nick - over here they hate auto's too, but they seem to be ok with Tiptronics. If someone could mention that the cars will be 4wd tiptronics and manuals they might be ok with it.

Here they drive it up to about 20kph, put the car into 3rd gear, then plant it

I am very interested – I know I only have a V6 and can only push half the power you chaps are generating but I think it would be fun to see the difference a couple of turbos make. Also a fantastic lower model bench mark. If accepted I might give my m8 a ring with a GLS and also my brother-in-law with his Lotus Carlton (please advise if any of this is acceptable)

I can not fully commit until I know the date and cost.

Alltough a bit long in the tooth now and an even rarer sight than a VR-4 , the Lotus Carlton is still my fave car of all time.

My dad had one as a company car in 1991 - I used to drive the thing with 'L' plates on........

Kept it for 2 years and 60,000 miles and then got a SAAB Carlson.

Right now my Galant is the closest thing I can afford to a Carlton sustitute, even though a couple of turbos seem to have fallen off somewhere..........

GET IT DOWN THERE

I can also have my own little shootout with the GLS

No problem slim, get them to register and get there names down.I think that all of the club would agree-It would be a good thing to see a carlton on the rollers and just to hear what it sounds like on full tilt;) it looks like the 13th may is the prefered date atm, if we get 30 cars then its between £30 & £35 pounds, less than that £40-£45 pounds.I think it would be intresting to see who has the bragging rights of the most powerful V6:deal2:

My thoughts exactly.... I friend of a friend runs The Racing Line - who ran a dyno shootout day for the MLR - the garage can't be more than 4 miles from my door step.

But the chance to meet more Club VR-4 members and their cars means I am more than happy to travel 150 miles each way for the occasion......

And it's not as if I will be in the running for top spot in the BHP stakes..../help

I could well be interested in this, be nice to find out what my V6 is pushing out

Can I bring a friend..? he's not a Galant driver but he's interested in what his Mercedes 190e or Vectra SRi is currently pushing out?

So that would be 2 more (need to first check with the other half of course)

Good thinking Robin

I believe a deposit of 20 pounds should do it, as Wrc would like the cash on arrival so i think a payment to nickmann either by paypal or cheque etc would be the way forward.I cant ask for full payment yet as i dont know how many people will be coming on the day.If we had 30 cars already i would ask for full payment between 30 & 35 pounds. With less than a month to go we really need to get things moving. If we had 30 cars then i would have got the ball rolling cash wise but im supprised we still dont have the numbers:inquisiti
What i may have to do is get another car member site involved just to get the numbers.I really wanted this event for the clubvr4 members so we can put names to faces and just enjoy the day :baby:

I just got a reply to a email i sent to JTuner magazine

I sent:

Hi All

I'd like to say thanks for producing a fantastic mag not Chav related. Ive been an avid reader since you were born (june issue) and it continues to go from strength to strength.Ive even had the pleasure of meeting you at Brunters Vr4 group thrash on the 5/07/05 were a great day was had by all.Anyhow the point of this email is that ive organised a Rolling Road day at Wrc Technologies/silverstone for the above date and was wondering if we could have your hospitality again to cover the event. I know time is short but i would just like to thank you in advance whether you can make it or not and keep up the good work. I would just like to add before i go my name is Paul and my vr4 was the reg no.S??? A?K and a few mods have been added.

Regards

Paul

There reply was:

Hi Paul,

Shouldn't be a problem mate. We've still got a soft spot for the VR4s!

Carlin our freelancer will most likely be doing it.

I think it may be a bit late to sort out a deposit from everyone. Paypal costs a bit of money, so I would have preferred it to go throught the club, but time is now short.

Can I say that a certain Essex Lad has put a lot of effort into organising this event and trust me when I say I know how hard it is getting everyone organised. Please don't let him down by not turning up on the day. If you said you will attend, then turn up! There is plenty of time between now and then to make your excuses.

I would also like to say that I am looking forward to this! It is something I have wanted to do for a while - so it is not only going to be interesting from what my car is doing point of view, but also very interesting to meet some new faces and members!

Just got round to joining. Allan from WRC Tech here. When I first spoke with the organiser we had not confirmed a date, as such Chris [my business partner and Dyno operator] is away mapping cars in Poland that weekend.

All is not lost however, as Jamie has run Dyno Days previously, the only potential issue being him running the Tiptronic versions. If someone who is close by Silverstone can come in for him to trial it ?

I have not read the complete thread but I assume its 13th May and we have over 20 cars ??

Hi Guys
We can arrange for an independant catering van to be on site but need 25 cars / 40 people for them to come. Our toilets are available to use on the day.

Please note that non VR4's will run at the end of the running order to simplify and maintain speed.

He wants one person to organise everybody on the day and seeing as though you have arranged everything thus far what about you? or as you've got to come a way and I'm nearer I can always get there first thing and start things off:thinking:

We also need at least half of the people to be there by 9am on the day and as we are all paying on the day he has asked that everybody pay in cash only as this will speed things up and run smoother on the day.

A few points I would say having attended a few RR days:

1: 20+ cars will take a long long time to get through - be prepared for a long day
2: £45-55 is very expensive for such numbers - AP charge £30-35 max !
3: Cash on the day.......not to speed things up, thats simply because it won't go through the books ! I would try and negotiate a lower price for cash.

20 x £45 = £900 cash - not bad for a days work - take off £100 to cover costs and the £800 gets split no doubt. But, if you guys are happy then fine, I'm sure you will have a fun day :2thumbsup

The only reason that Allan wants cash is because it takes too long on the day to run backwards and forwards to the card machine. He will not take cheques because the last time the MLR had a rolling road day there several people bounced cheques on him. As a business he wants things to run smoothly and get paid at the end of the day.

Considering that their standard price for a dyno run is £55 + VAT, I wouldn't be prepared to pay £55 for a group dyno day - £45 is the most I'll go to. (Taking the p a bit I think). I think we need to get the price cleared up ASAP...

Full details of their dyno are available here (http://www.wrc-tech.co.uk/services-rolling-road.htm)for anyone who's interested.

Incidently, the dyno's computer records and remembers your run for all time - so if ever you tune or mod, and go back they'll be able to recall previous runs and compare. Up to a thousand runs per vehicle...

Bearing in mind what Spirit has said, I have to agree with Bern, £45 max for me. I can turn up for 9am, but i'll probably pi$$ off to the racing for a bit if things are going slow. Always happy to go to the pub for some lunch, might it be an idea to let the pub know were coming?

It takes all day with those sort of numbers mate. By the time you get a car on the rollers, anchor it, do a run or two, twiddle a few things here and there - I would say 15-20 mins per car

01-05-2006, 10:11 AM
as this dyno is only 1 of two in the world with 2400bhp atw capacity

is this not a lot more kit than we need (sorry caishanvr4)we only need 1000bhp ish.

will they be doing anything to the cars or purely running them on dyno there write up say they tell you where you can improve the car, but as someone is doing this who doesn't seem to know what he is doing with our cars????????

why should the price be so high???????

ok so its not a put it on the rollers run it get bhp then get off .

According to the man, on the day it works like this: Cars lined up on the road outside. 2 cars in the lot in front of WRC. Another car on the ramp being prepped and checked - tyre pressures and fluids. One car on the rollers. I don't think there'll be any car tuning. They'll run the car until they get at least two consistent runs.

Four pages of different graphs (power/torque/boost/AFR etc), car off the rollers and into the lot - driver takes it from there and we all move forward a step.

Nutter_John
01-05-2006, 11:14 AM
the place I use in Luton PTS charge £50 per power run , this normaly takes up 30 mins . This consists of 2 or 3 runs with a little time in between each one for the temp to cool down .

I will still be coming over but my clutch is is start to feel like an ICE rink :( so I'm not sure if a run would even register .

Lucky for me a I now know a really good place to get it changed for a fantastic price (WRD) .

o.k so what he quoted you and is it standard clutch going back in as thinking mine going to be needing a change soon

Nutter_John
01-05-2006, 08:02 PM
I've been looking around on the web and can not see a heavy duty road clutch for our cars - I'm sure the OEM one can cope with the power once replaced but the car has done a lot of miles hence the slipping

I had a good chat with Wouter and Richy at the weekend and they sure know there stuff , also hell of a lot cheaper than a main garage . The replacement of the clutch take about 8 hrs (imagine that @ £60 per hour+ vat )

Maybe a long way to stoke but the savings make it worth while , also if it helps em get WRD up and running then I'm more than happy

Cheers John

Ok guys, WTF is going on, this thread has become a bit too messy.

Could someone sensible start a new thread with the current players on the day – my co driver (one with Lotus Calton – not playing on this event) and I am up for it and I am unsure where I stand.

Could we have a current list of participants – current cost – detailed directions etc

This is my Birthday present to myself and the wife (very crusty about me attending this) may have to cancel a babysitter and night out in a top restaurant because I can not guarantee when I will return.

My perception of this event was to gauge your car & not your ego – I feel embarrassed to enter a V6 into this power rush event, I know I will not win, but I would like to gauge the range (would be nice to see a GLS as well).

Please could someone make sense of this and if possible help me keep peace with ma bitch – I would like to get away before 3 ish.

An idea I have experienced before is people who need to get away early etc should shout and then the organiser can make a list of who goes in what order based on when they will turn up........easiest way and keeps everyone happy.
