Clutch Master cylinder Question?

Yep me again..

After having my gearbox reconditioned and a new clutch fitted I have been told my clutch master cyclinder has failed.

I have just ordered a new one (£68) incl VAT & delivery, but the one I ordered is for a VR4. I have been told that the master cylinder for both the V6 and the VR4 are the same, can anyone in the know confirm this?

I can't confirm that it is or is not the same but it seems practical, I had my mater cylinder, slave cylinder and the valve thingy reconditioned after they failed when I replaced my clutch. I guess it was the same problem.

Getting it fitted today so should find out if it's the same or not.

The master cylinder fitted a treat, but the clutch is still not functioning.

It seems to be ok once bled, but only lasts for a short while before the clutch fails (it still presses down, but does not allow me to change gear)..

I cannot think what else could be wrong (unless the slave cylinder is screwed).. When it works it seems perfect, then slowy gets more difficult to put the car in gear until finally pressing the clutch down has no effect.

Are you losing fluid? Gaining air? Can you get someone to sit in the car pumping the pedal while you watch the engine bay? The last question may sound daft, but I have seen a bulkhead fixing break, so that when the clutch pedal was pressed the whole master cylinder moved, so the slave cylinder never saw enough pressure to release the clutch.

Don't appear to be losing any fluid, could be gaining air but not seeing any bubbles in the master cylinder.

I will check the bulkhead fixing the weekend, at least it's another avenue to check. Slave cylinders are quite cheap so I could replace it (if I could find one) found plenty for the VR4 but these look different so I doubt will fit. (though I could be wrong) The one's on camskill are a good price, but again for the VR4.

I have just paid my £20 to become a full member, small price to pay for the help I have already had on here.

If anyone has any other ideas I would be grateful for the help?

as stated before you could have your slave cylinder rebuilt or replaced from now it is case of checking everything in the line.

All sorted now,

After the new master cylinder was put in it must of got some air, re-bleeding and pumping the clutch has solved the issue.

Gear changes are smooth once again.

I seem to be having further issues with my clutch/gearbox, everything seemed fine at first but now I have soem odd issues when changing gear (especially reverse gear).

The only way I can describe it is a shuddering when releasing the clutch, the shuddering feels very similar to the jolting you get when the car is about to stall, but this is happening mid gear change with the revs well above 2k. Reverse is knightmare at the moment, in fact the car just seem to violently surge backwards in uncontrollable burts. This is with the clutch fully released, if I use the biting point then it just shudders backwards /Grrr

Could this be the torque converter? /help
