I've just done several speed tests using the ADSLguide website.
I'm with ntlworld using a 600k connection, I got a constant fast download speed compared to many others but my upload speed is terrible and only just beats 56k dial up :INSERT INTO post VALUES (
My results are here: http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedchart.asp?id=441656ecf813cb9b3e441656ec

Test yours and report back what you get by following the link below. http://www.adslguide.org.uk/tools/speedtest.asp

Downstream 454Kbps
Upstream 251Kbps

Any reason why my upstream might be at stupidly low 106kbps?

I have done that test many many times over the months - when it is slow I usually find just disconnecting and reconnecting cures it.

Can't get ADSL here :INSERT INTO post VALUES ( Struggling along on 64k ISDN. Ee, I dream of broadband ... ;)

Downstream 445 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (55.6 KB/sec) 480 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (inc. overheads)
Upstream 233 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (29.1 KB/sec) 251 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (inc. overheads)

I have tweaked my settings a little as I'm using AOL it uses a different protocol
AOL uses PPPoA
Before I tweaked the settings it was a little slower

Broadband is the best thing ever invented in my opinion! don't know how anyone can still use that dial up crap, if they didn't have to.

My speed is still around:
Downstream 558 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (69.8 KB/sec) 602 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (inc. overheads)
Upstream 114 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (14.3 KB/sec) 123 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (inc. overheads)

My upstream doesn't ever appear to go up :INSERT INTO post VALUES (
Do you think there may be a problem that I should contact ntl about?

I would ask NTL

Argh.. one thing's for sure I have faster download than you all.. but my upstream is just nowhere near as good.

Off to send NTL and email so I can enjoy an automated reply.. wonder if they press the correct automated question button, last time I got a completely different answer to a question I sent. :D :D

Apart from you Inspecter Gadget. :D

Slight misprint *ahem*:o

I notice your upstream is considerably lower in relation to your download.... :Ponder:
Could there be a pattern??
The faster the download the slower the upstream??

its always half - or there abouts

Downstream 1014 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (126.8 KB/sec) 1095 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (inc. overheads)
Upstream 238 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (29.8 KB/sec) 257 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (inc. overheads)

Brind, upstream is capped at a quarter on home accounts. This is to stop you hosting commercial ventures on a home link. You have to pay extra INSERT INTO post VALUES (corporate rates) to have the cap lifted.

So you mean I could be stuck with: Upstream 114 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (14.3 KB/sec) 123 Kbps INSERT INTO post VALUES (inc. overheads) ? that is half of what everyone here has.:INSERT INTO post VALUES (

ISDN must cost you a fortune for little gain over std dial up. Have you thought about satellite?

i dream of ADSL as well. Being stuck on a ISDN 2E really sucks.

As to Satellite, its only one way .. you still have to have a dial up connection for your uploads.

And its not for gamers and normally you have to apply for planning permission.

Many thanks, a simple answer to a simple question. :)

Received an email 3 days after I asked them if I had a problem and as always the answer was different to the question. I asked about the upload and got detailed info about download.

Point taken about games. As for upload, it depends how big your wallet is and your usage - you may find that getting a satellite link with 256kbps upload and 512 down works out about the same.

I don't really know - have never investigated it much as I like living in the town!
