View Full Version : Galant V6-24V Gearbox into an FTO :)

Ive finally got the gearbox from a Galant V6-24V fitted into the FTO. The ratio`s are

1st = 3.583
2nd = 1.947
3rd = 1.379
4th = 1.030
5th = 0.767
Final = 3.722

And all I can say is WOW !!! I hit 130 in 4th in no time what so ever. I can now cruise at 70 = 2500rpm, 80=3000rpm. I just puts the power down so much better. As my car only redlines at 7200 I will have the following top speeds in each gear.

Now 1 gear = 37.739 MPH Before with fto box 1 gear = 32.575
Now 2 gear = 69.450 MPH Before with fto box 2 gear = 59.947
Now 3 gear = 98.056 MPH Before with fto box 3 gear = 84.639
Now 4 gear = 131.280 MPH Before with fto box 4 gear = 113.318
Now 5 gear = 176.296 MPH Before with fto box 5 gear = 142.338

how does the change feel? i found the box in the galant a lot slicker than the one thats in the FTO....

do you notice a differance in how difficult it is to get the car off the line with the taller 1st gear?

Does it put the power down better just because the ratios are slightly taller and so better matched to the engine, or is there more to it than that?

And from what you've said....... Looks good for chipping more time from your 1/4 mile!

The taller gears mean Im not snatching through the box as much, the power Ive got just seems to match the ratio`s a lot better.

Gotta say, I've found this combination a delight to drive during SM6 and after. Be even better once this RPW clutch beds in a bit.

It's getting a little better, but if it remains the same............I feel another hybrid job coming on !!

what figures you putting out atw.Have you had it rolling roaded yet ;)
