Hi to's you's /help

I have in the middle of a minor nightmare at the moment I have just had a 8.5 inch wide rim sent to me for trying out and It wont fit./Grrr

Rather than me spending £££'s in courier costs to and from London to Leeds I would ask a question of any of you out there running with 18's on.

Could you give me all the spec's of the wheel and tyre's you are using so I can get an Idea of what will really fit on Mine.

I don't want to copy any styles as I want my own look but please could you post up your specs etc 225x40x18 on a 7.5x18 Rim with a ET32 off set etc this wouls be great as I am running out of time patience and sanity.

---225x40x18 @ ET32 and 7.5 wide x 18" Dia-----

Thanks in advance :2thumbsup

Bummer, what was wrong with the 8.5" rims? ...wrong offset?
I'm currently running 18x8" with 35 offset and 225/40/18 tyres.

Hi You see

Right, the back was fine guard /arch wise, it stuck out only 5-6mm then the return on the tyre would take back inside the arch where I came unstuck was the tyre thickness @ 90mm 40% of 225 I belive it would have fouled the surspension drop arm (trouble is because I am sending it back and forth by Courier without the tyre I can only guesstimate) I would Idealy like to be in a fitting shop with all the gear etc

Now the fronts are 25mm to wide/ proud of the arches where I was going to fit the arch extensions of the type S Leg this would have covered 15mm of that and then with the return on the tyre would have probably got away with it.
The real bummer is on the front with the surspension arm I measured 75mm vertical clearence off the rim and I was then told it would need 90 ( being 40% of 225) so looking at it that way it would clash.

Personally I dont think its Impossible but you need to get it to a shop and definatly need the arch extensions.

I have a problem with the supliers as their rules state "Once the rubber is fitted you can not return it" I am going to double check this today on the phone but in an ideal world I would send it back have it shod and returned I and then I can fit it and put it on the deck to check, it I am afraid I'll get it shod and retured then it wont fit and I am left with 4 18" wheels at around £1500 I can not use??:bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry:

Got a sheet of cardboard? you could make up a surrogate tyre to stick over the rim, and let the car down onto an axle stand by the suspension arm (probably need to do both sides), so it sits right as if the weight was on the wheel, and then see for sure, would help take into account camber and such. You could see the clearances in all directions then.

Never done it, but thats where i would start... certainly cheaper than an 18" tyre.:2thumbsup

Yeah I've found that even with 225 tyres the fronts come out about 5mm (abit too much for my liking) but that rears are perfect! ...think 8" wide is the way to go...even with these you can still get 245 tyres on if you wanted to....tho it won't look the best on the car.

L6

You are right 8" is the max really.

I am calling the suppliers in a min so I will know the next steps to take in a min wether to go for 7.5x18's as I can't find any 8" in their stock that I like

Will keep you informed

Cheers

The EVO 7/8/9 mags fit perfect on the cars with their offset, have a look in my vbgarage for pics with wheel arches or bernmc's for pics without the arches.

I know they are only 17x8's, but if you go to 18's with the same offset and 40 profile tyres you should be ok

Hi

I'm running 225/40/18's 7.5" .. Tried 245/40/18's but they wouldn't go on the rears without 10mm spacers. could have possibly got them on if they were a 35 profile.. I'm sticking with the 225/40/18's on 7.5" rims..

Jus´t ordered 18" from AEZ.

Tyre: 225/40x18
Wheels: 7.5x18 with offset: 38. (40 is standard on mine)

I´ve been doing research for a month now about wheels for this car, and it´s not easy to find many alternatives for the vr4 if youré going for 18". At least not here in sweden.

Pic of my wheel:

Thanks Wodjno--Glen,

It looks like 7.5inch may be a good Idea.

I get the D2 Rim and tyre back tommorow so will check it out I then probably re order in a 7.5 trouble is finding the right one D2 only come in one width so its back to the drawing board,

Next option is the TSW Catalunya they R cool .

Fritzz --

Nice wheels Sir, they will look good on a VR4,

Is it lowered or standard height ?

Cheers for yor tyre specs thanks

It´s standard suspension. If the car will look like an suv when i put my wheels on, then i´m gonna order lowering springs.

Btw, Doe´s anybody have pictures of the vr4 with standard suspension and 18inch wheels on??

Good old Infra red slow but does the job---

WildCards
28-04-2006, 09:18 PM
ahh, sweet. Looking good mate, are they 18x7.5 or x8.5 in the end?

L6
28-04-2006, 09:26 PM
I stuck with the 8.5"

and added arch extension bits shown only on the front here but now they are all the way round to carry off the flared arch look they also cover 85% of the tire so hopfully mr Plod wont see the 15%.

After a bit of Investigation with a freind of a freind who is a traffic Cop he and his mate did not know there was any prob with them on sight so hopfully all will be well

I may have some made if required ie I get pulled but if not they will stay as they now are.

I have driven on them in the wet and they don't flick up water in an adverse way they do spray a little but my original front used to as well.

Over all I am well happy, the new arches and mud flaps look great

The only prob is every one who drives behind me now want's to race "mornin noon and night"
Even @ 6am on way to work, so indirectly you could say the mud flaps have pt my fuel consumption up.

those rears stick out alot! How is the turn in with the fronts? any rubbing?

L6
28-04-2006, 09:37 PM
No,

They are clear all round, and I still have room to lower the car a little in the future,

The fronts go lock to lock with a car full of passengers with no prob at all so the off set moves the wheels forward out of the way. no rub's or now't

the angle of the pics don't do to much justice to hw much they do stick out, its not as much as it looks in the photo's.

looking from higher shows how they fit better I will get a couple tomorrow and post along with now the rears also have new arch bits on top

bradc
28-04-2006, 09:43 PM
So what offset are they, and what size tyres did you go with?

L6
28-04-2006, 09:50 PM
The off set is ET 32 the same as the fitment for these wheels on to the Evo.

The tyre spec is 225x40xZR18 with Kei D2 8.5" rims, oh and the tyres are Yoko Paradas spec II and I am sure the new tyres are actually less noisy than the original's

WildCards
29-04-2006, 08:17 AM
cool, I can expand my wheel search to include 17x8.5's then. Nice one markle

bradc
29-04-2006, 08:17 PM
You will need to make sure the offset is 38mm or less, so that you don't hit the rear suspension arm.

Any chance we could get a photo from the rear.. square on.. when your kneeling down? want to see how the back of the car looks with those flaps.. also, a shot from 5 oclock with the whole car in it? im liking the looky of that car, all in dark colours...

will do Barry

I missed the Sun shine yesterday and we have drizzle all day today next time the sun is out it's picture takin time

ps: I am sure it now holds the road better due to its slightly wider track, I spent yesterday out in it and there is slightly more road noise than I originally thought ,down to useing the Yoko paradas but I can live with it.:2thumbsup :2thumbsup :2thumbsup

I think its coming along nicely a few more bits to do before the re spray, front lower spoiler, cannards and thats it done and ready for painting.

WildCards
30-04-2006, 07:19 PM
You after 'Super' canards? if solet me know where you're getting them from and how much as i'm after a pair. Could do a possible GB if you can drum up some interest.

L6
30-04-2006, 07:38 PM
I am still on the Prowel @ the mo ,

been looking @ carbon ones and plstc along with fibre glass etc.

Idealy ones with a decent internal radius to follow the curve of our front corners as some universal ones are square and you would get a sh1t finish

And for the front lower spoiler, I am on the look out for the Scratch Vouge kit for the post face lift this would be spot on, if I could only contact scratch vogue.

Have you seen any of the above and know of any contacts ?

bradc
30-04-2006, 08:30 PM
The vogue kit is way too low and fragile, you'll rip it off in less than a week. I like it myself, but there is no way I would fit it on my car and actually drive anywhere at all.

Have you considered tinting the front windows? Despite the risk of Caishan hassling me, my front windows are tinted, there is a good side on picture in my Gallery which is worth checking out. I think it would make your car look even more sinister than it is now.

L6
30-04-2006, 09:27 PM
I ve had a quote for the front windows and will be getting them done in the next few months I will post a pic when done. I am only going for a light tint though as our rules only allow 30% as you probably know.

shame about the vogue kit, but do you know any one using it and how much would it cost ?

I only ever travel on tarmac and my car isn't lowered at all so what are the chances or is it just a non starter?

WildCards
30-04-2006, 10:02 PM
I don't know of anyone in the UK that supplies them, might be worth PM'ing Mr Voodoo to see if he can lay his hands on one, while your at i ask him if he can get the canards too.

Brad, can Kempy's or speedfactory get the stuff markle is after?

bradc
01-05-2006, 12:58 AM
I think speedfactory can get the vogue kits, kempys won't be able to though.

If you can avoid speedbumps and driveways then go for it, but otherwise I think it'll rip straight off. It is fairly fragile, there is nothing to mount it to securely in the front bumper, and it only has 2 mounting points to it as well

L6
01-05-2006, 09:26 AM
OOOOooo but it looks soo cool,

I will add some drop struts where required.
and I have tons of alloy sheeting and plate so I will come up with somthing to make it secure.

Brad, will the speed factory export to the uk ?

If so, I feel a purchase coming on very soon.

bradc
01-05-2006, 10:06 AM
I think they export, just send them an email and see what they say.
