Hello all.

Just purchased a 2001 galant 2.5 v6 [ac]. And pick it up on monday (to scotland from somerset  ). I have a couple of queries you guys might be able to help me with. Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

1. Anyone know if the standard alarm is thatcham approved?

2. Is there anything I really need to check out thoroughly when picking it up, any major issues with these?.

3. Does anyone have any reccomendations for insurers?.

4. Its due a service (54,000 cambelt) in around 5000 miles what should I be looking to pay from a mitsi dealer?.

Thanks for your time, I hope you wont mind me bugging you all over the next few weeks.

Welcome!

1. Thatcham 2 I believe.
2. If it is a manual, listen to the gearbox. Input shaft bearings can become noisy. They still seem to last a long time even once noisy though!
3. Try a search on the site for insurance. It is less of a problem when you don't have two turbos!
4. Lots. I stand to be corrected, but somewhere around £600

Thanks, £600 eh?. blimey!.

Does anyone know what the alarm is?. searching the site It seems to be a rebadged cobra but i cant find an exact spec.

by the way whats a good price to be paying for a 2001 2.5 v6 in excellent condition with 48,000 miles.

That we do

I keep seeing a lovely silver VR4 in Somerton, don't know if the owner knows about this forum or not...! Perhaps I should leave him/her a flyer...

The 54k service includes platinum plugs, cambelt etc. So once paid for, you shouldn't get stung again for it for a while.

A good price is one you are happy with. Theses cars are not common, so sometimes people pay a fortune for the spec they want, sometimes people can't sell them even at seriously knock down prices!

Welcome to ClubVR-4 Glover!:2thumbsup

As for Alarms.... my old GLS and My V6 Sport had the Standard-issue 'Diamond HF3' alarm (a rebadged cobra as you know). It was a CAT 2 According to this document here:
