Some pictures from the Friday night at the Paddock, if a committee member could be kind enough to post these into the gallery - I have higher res ones if you want them emailed :)

After the Nurburgring was closed to F1 after the 1976 grandprix a massive project was planned that began in 1982 to build the new F1 circuit. The full 7 mile southloop of the circuit was abandoned, half of it turned into a public road to access a small village, part of it resurfaced and used as carpark access for the new F1 circuit, and the rest left to rot.

ChrisG was kind enough to take Andy and myself on a tour on the Monday afternoon. We drove the new road complete with its blind crests and sharp cambers then pulled off into the carpark access area and walked up the long steep hill to the banked curve at the top.

The first picture is looking back at an abandoned stretch that still has the original tarmac dating back to 1927, the second picture is the view from the top of the long hill we walked up - note how narrow the road is. The trees are almost certainly the ones that lined the road when the likes of pre-war racers Richard Seaman and Tazio Nuvolari would be charging past them on skinny tyres and 16cylinder engines.....breathtaking stuff just imagining all this as we walked up there. Remember that the Nordschliefe was just as narrow and treelined until the early 70's!
